The fourth interpretation:

2166 - My father informed me, he said: It was reported from Yahya b. Ayyub, from Muhammad b. 'Ajlan, and 'Amr b. al-Harith, from Zayd b. Aslam, regarding His saying: "But He will take you to task for what your hearts have earned," [meaning] like a man's saying: 'He is a disbeliever,' 'He is a polytheist.' Allah does not take him to task until that (intent) comes from his heart.

His saying: "And Allah is Forgiving"

2167 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya b. 'Abd Allah b. Bukayr narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' b. Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, regarding His saying: "Forgiving," meaning: when He overlooks the oath that he swore.

His saying: "Forbearing"

2168 - And by the same chain from Sa'id b. Jubayr, regarding Allah's saying: "Forbearing," [meaning:] when He did not impose the expiation for it, then the expiation was revealed.

His saying: "For those who swear not to have sexual relations with their wives"

2169 - My father narrated to us, 'Amr b. 'Ali narrated to us, Abu Qutaybah narrated to us, from 'Abd al-Rahman b. Abi al-Rijal, from his father, from 'Amrah, from 'Aishah, who said: "The ila' (oath of abstinence) of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was: 'I swear by Allah that I will not approach you for a month.'"

2170 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah narrated to me, from 'Ali b. Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "For those who swear not to have sexual relations with their wives, there is a waiting time of four months," [meaning:] this man swears to his wife, by Allah, that he will not have intercourse with her.

2171 - My father narrated to us, 'Uthman b. Hafs al-Basri narrated to us, Maslamah b. 'Alqamah narrated to us, Dawud narrated to us, from Sa'id b. al-Musayyib, regarding His saying: "For those who swear not to have sexual relations with their wives," he said: "They swear [an oath]." Abu Muhammad said: It was reported from al-Hasan, Muqatil b. Hayyan, and 'Abd al-Karim, the like of this.

2172 - My father narrated to us, Qabisah b. 'Uqbah narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Ma'mar, from 'Ata' al-Khurasani, from Abu Salamah, from 'Uthman b. 'Affan and Zayd b. Thabit, who both said: "When four months have passed, it is a divorce, and she is more entitled to herself."
