Translation · EN

The fifth interpretation:

2202 - al-Hasan b. Abi al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ma'mar informed us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "And for the men over them is a degree," he said: Men have a degree of preference over women.

The sixth interpretation:

2203 - I read to Muhammad b. al-Fadl, Muhammad b. 'Ali narrated to us, Muhammad b. Muzahim informed us, from Bukayr b. Ma'ruf, from Muqatil b. Hayyan: "And for the men over them is a degree," he means: A merit because of what they spent on them from their wealth.

2204 - al-'Abbas b. Mazyad informed us by way of reading, Ibn Shu'ayb informed me, Sa'id informed us, from al-Hasan and Qatadah, that they both said: The Exalted (al-'Aziz) in His favor.

It was reported from Abu al-'Aliyah and al-Rabi' b. Anas:

That they both said: The Exalted (al-'Aziz) in His vengeance when He takes vengeance.

2205 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab b. al-Harith narrated to us, Bishr b. 'Umarah informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "Wise (Hakim)," he says: One who perfects (muhkim) what He wills.

His saying, the Most High: "The divorce is twice."

2206 - Harun b. Ishaq narrated to us, 'Abdah b. Sulayman narrated to us, from Hisham b. 'Urwah, from his father, that a man said to his wife: "I will never divorce you, nor will I ever let you go." She said: "And how is that?" He said: "I will divorce you, and then when your time (iddah) is about to end, I will take you back." She went to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and mentioned that to him, so Allah the Most High revealed: "The divorce is twice." Hisham said: And they had nothing to limit themselves to regarding divorce.

2207 - Hajjaj b. Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "The divorce is twice," he said: A man divorces his wife while she is in a state of purity (tuhr) without having had intercourse; then when she menstruates and then becomes pure, the term (qur') is completed; then he divorces her a second time just as he divorced the first, if he wishes to do so. So if he divorces then she menstruates a second time, these are two divorces and two periods.
