1878 - My father narrated to us, Duhaym narrated to us, Muhammad b. Shu'ayb narrated to us, he said: I asked Yahya b. al-Harith: "What is 'good' in this world?" He said: "Righteous action."

The third interpretation:

1879 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Abu al-Ahwas Muhammad b. Hayyan narrated to us, 'Abbad b. al-'Awwam informed me, Hisham informed me, from al-Hasan regarding His saying: 'Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good', he said: The 'good' in this world is knowledge and worship.

1880 - Usayd b. 'Asim narrated to us, al-Husayn b. Hafs narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from a man, from al-Hasan, regarding His saying: 'Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good', he said: Wholesome provision and beneficial knowledge in this world.

The fourth interpretation:

1881 - Al-Hasan b. Abi al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ma'mar informed us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: 'And in the Hereafter [that which is] good', he said: In the Hereafter, [it is] well-being (afiyah). Regarding 'Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good', he said: In the world, [it is] well-being (afiyah).

The fifth interpretation:

1882 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Safwan narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, 'Abd Allah b. Lahi'ah informed me, from Yazid b. Abi Habib, from Muhammad b. Ka'b al-Qurazi, regarding this verse: 'Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good', he said: The righteous wife is among the [types of] good. It was narrated from Yazid b. Malik the like of this.

The sixth interpretation:

1883 - Musa b. Harun al-Tusi informed us in what he wrote to me, al-Husayn b. Muhammad al-Marwudhi narrated to us, Shayban b. 'Abd al-Rahman al-Tamimi narrated to us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: 'But among them is he who says, "Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire,"', he said: This is a servant who intended the Hereafter; for it he traveled, for it he spent, and for it he worked. The Hereafter was his obsession, his pursuit, and his intention.
