The Second Aspect:

2322 - Yazid b. Sinan al-Basri, a resident of Egypt, narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman b. Mahdi reported to us, Sufyan reported to us, from Ibn Jurayj, from Mujahid, regarding "There is no blame upon you regarding what they do with themselves in a recognized, honorable manner," he said: It is lawful, good marriage. It is narrated from al-Hasan, al-Zuhri, and al-Suddi similarly.

His saying: "Acquainted"

2323 - Muhammad b. Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas b. al-Walid al-Narsi reported to us, Yazid b. Zuray', narrated to us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "Acquainted"—He is acquainted with His creation.

His saying, the Exalted: "And there is no blame upon you for that to which you allude regarding the engagement of women"

2324 - Yunus b. Habib narrated to us, Abu Dawud reported to us, Shu'bah reported to us, from Mansur, from Mujahid, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding the saying of Allah the Exalted: "And there is no blame upon you for that to which you allude regarding the engagement of women," he said: It is an allusion during the waiting period, as long as one does not explicitly propose.

2325 - Muhammad b. Isma'il al-Ahmasi narrated to us, Waki' reported to us, from his father, from Mansur, from Mujahid, from Ibn 'Abbas: "And there is no blame upon you for that to which you allude regarding the engagement of women," he said: He says to her during the waiting period: I have an interest in women, and I would love for Allah to provide me with a righteous woman, without making an explicit proposal to her.

2326 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Ibn Abi Shaybah reported to us, Mu'awiyah b. Hisham reported to us, from 'Umarah b. Ruzayq, from 'Ata' b. al-Sa'ib, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "And there is no blame upon you for that to which you allude regarding the engagement of women," he said: He says: I truly have a desire for you, and I would love to marry you, until he lets her know that he intends to marry her, without making a binding contract or entering into a covenant with her.

2327 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Abu Khalid al-Ahmar reported to us, from Yahya b. Sa'id, from 'Abd al-Rahman b. al-Qasim, from his father: "And there is no blame upon you for that to which you allude regarding the engagement of women," he said: He says to her during the waiting period: I truly have a desire for you, and I am truly keen on you, and things similar to this.
