Tafsir Ibn Abi Hatim
Volume 3 · Page 103His saying (exalted is He): 'Then every soul will be compensated'

Translation · EN

...Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace): "A stone is weighed at seven khilfat (a type of weight or measurement), and it is thrown into Hell. It falls therein for seventy autumns. The misappropriated object (ghulul) is brought and thrown with it, then its owner is tasked to come with it." This is the saying of Allah, the Almighty and Exalted: "And whoever misappropriates will come with what he misappropriated on the Day of Resurrection."

4439 - My father narrated to us, al-Husayn ibn al-Rabi' narrated to us, Ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, from Abu Ma'shar al-Madani, from Sa'id al-Maqburi, who said: A man came to Abu Hurayrah and said: "Have you seen the saying of Allah the Exalted: 'And whoever misappropriates will come with what he misappropriated on the Day of Resurrection?' If someone misappropriates a thousand dirhams or two thousand dirhams, will he come with them? Have you seen someone who misappropriates a hundred camels or two hundred camels—what does he do?" He said: "Have you seen one whose molar is like Uhud, his thigh like Waraqan, his shin like Bayda', and his sitting place is between Medina and al-Rabadhah? Would this not be permissible?"

4440 - My father narrated to us, al-Hasan ibn al-Rabi' narrated to us, Ibn al-Mubarak informed us, from 'Abd Allah ibn Shawdhab, 'Amir ibn 'Abd al-Wahid narrated to me, from 'Abd Allah ibn Buraydah, from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'As, who said: "If I were to consider a small amount of misappropriation (ghulul) lawful, I would consider a large amount of it lawful. There is no one who misappropriates who will not be tasked to bring it from the lowest depth of Hell."

4441 - Al-Hasan ibn Ahmad narrated to us, Musa ibn Muhkam narrated to us, Abu Bakr al-Hanafi narrated to us, 'Abbad ibn Mansur narrated to us, from al-Hasan regarding His saying: "And whoever misappropriates will come with what he misappropriated on the Day of Resurrection," he said: "It will be a shame upon them on the Day of Resurrection."

4442 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bukayr narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding the saying of Allah the Exalted: "Will come with what he misappropriated on the Day of Resurrection," meaning: He will come with it on the Day of Resurrection, having carried it upon his neck.

His saying, the Exalted: "Then every soul will be compensated"

4443 - And through the same chain from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding the saying of Allah the Exalted: "Then every soul will be compensated," meaning: both the righteous and the wicked.

4444 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, Zunayj narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: "Then every soul will be compensated for what it earned, and they will not be wronged," he said: Then he will be recompensed for his earning, not being wronged nor having aggression committed against him.
