4486 - Muhammad ibn al-‘Abbas narrated to us, Muhammad ibn ‘Amr narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: "Say, 'Then avert death from yourselves, if you should be truthful,'" meaning: that death is inevitable, so if you are able to repel it from yourselves, then do so. They only acted hypocritically and abandoned striving in the way of Allah out of a desire for continued life in this world and fear of death.
4487 - ‘Isam ibn al-Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, Abu Ja‘far, meaning al-Razi, narrated to us, from al-Rabi‘, from Abu al-‘Aliyah regarding: "If you should be truthful," regarding what they say, that it is as they say.
His saying, the Exalted: "And never think of those who have been killed."
4488 - Muhammad ibn al-‘Abbas narrated to us, Muhammad ibn ‘Amr Zunayj narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: Then Allah said to His Prophet, encouraging the believers in the reward of striving (jihad) and making the killing easy for them: "And never think of those who have been killed in the way of Allah," meaning: do not consider those who have been killed in the way of Allah as dead.
4489 - al-Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Yahya ibn Adam narrated to us, Isra'il narrated to us, from Sa‘id ibn Masruq, from Abu al-Duha regarding His saying: "And never think of those who have been killed in the way of Allah as dead," he said: It was revealed concerning the martyrs of Uhud specifically; twenty-four were martyred from the Emigrants (Muhajirun): Hamzah ibn ‘Abd al-Muttalib, Mus‘ab ibn ‘Umayr, and Shammas ibn ‘Uthman; and forty-six were martyred from the Helpers (Ansar).
His saying, the Exalted: "In the way of Allah."
4490 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Bukayr narrated to us, Ibn Lahi‘ah narrated to me, ‘Ata' ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr regarding the saying of Allah the Exalted: "And never think of those who have been killed in the way of Allah," meaning: in obedience to Allah, in striving against the polytheists.
His saying, the Exalted: "As dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord."
