that the souls are placed in green birds that take shelter in lamps hanging from the Throne, and they roam in the Garden wherever they wish. He said: Your Lord looked upon them with a look and said: "Do you desire anything more so that I may grant it to you?" They said: "Are we not roaming in the Garden wherever we wish?" He said: Then your Lord looked upon them again with a look and said: "Do you desire anything more so that I may grant it to you?" When they saw that they would not be left, they said: "Return our souls to our bodies, so that we may be killed in Your way once again."
Sufyan said: ‘Ata’ ibn al-Sa’ib added from Abu ‘Ubaydah, from ‘Abd Allah, who said: “Convey our greeting to our Prophet and inform him that we are pleased and [Allah] is pleased with us, and return our souls so that we may be killed in Your way once again.”
4492 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Bukayr narrated to us, ‘Ata’ ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr regarding the saying of Allah the Exalted: “As dead. Rather, they are alive,” meaning: The souls of the martyrs are alive with their Lord, receiving provision.
4493 - Muhammad ibn al-‘Abbas narrated to us, Muhammad ibn ‘Amr narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: His saying: “As dead. Rather, they are alive,” meaning: I have given them life, so they are with Me, receiving provision in the scent and grace of the Garden, rejoicing in what Allah has given them of His reward for their striving on His behalf.
His saying, the Exalted: "Receiving provision."
4494 - Sa‘dan ibn Nasr al-Baghdadi narrated to us, Sadaqah ibn Sabiq narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, al-Harith ibn Fudayl al-Ansari narrated to me, from Mahmud ibn Labid, from Ibn ‘Abbas, from the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, who said: "The martyrs are at a shimmering river by the gate of the Garden, in a green dome; their provision is brought to them morning and evening."
4495 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa’ narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "Receiving provision," he said: If he was saying: They are provided for from the fruits of the Garden, and they find its scent, yet they are not inside it.
His saying, the Exalted: "Rejoicing in what Allah has given them of His bounty."
4496 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl ibn Musa, Muhammad ibn ‘Ali narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim informed us, from Bukayr ibn Ma‘ruf, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan regarding His saying: "Rejoicing in what Allah has given them of His bounty," [meaning] in what they are in of goodness, honor, and provision.

أَنَّ الأَرْوَاحَ جُعِلَتْ فِي طَيْرٍ خَضْرٍ، تَأْوِي إِلَى قَنَادِيلَ مُعَلَّقَةٍ بِالْعَرْشِ، فَتَسْرَحُ فِي أَيِّ الْجَنَّةِ شَاءَتْ، قَالَ: فَاطَّلَعَ إِلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ اطِّلاعَةً فَقَالَ: هَلْ تَسْتَزِيدُونِي فَأَزِيدُكُمْ؟ قَالُوا:
أَلَسْنَا نَسْرَحُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ حَيْثُ شِئْنَا؟ قَالَ: ثُمَّ اطَّلَعَ إِلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ اطِّلاعَةً. فَقَالَ: هَلْ تَسْتَزِيدُونِي فَأَزِيدُكُمْ؟ فَلَمَّا رَأَوْا أَنَّهُمْ لَا يَتْرُكُونَ قَالُوا: تَرُدُّ أَرْوَاحَنَا فِي أَجْسَادِنَا، حَتَّى نُقْتَلَ فِي سَبِيلِكِ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى.
قَالَ سُفْيَانُ: وَزَادَ عَطَاءُ بْنُ السَّائِبِ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: تُقْرِئُ نَبِيِّنَا مِنَّا السَّلامَ، وَتُخْبِرُهُ أَنْ قَدْ رَضِينَا وَرُضِيَ عَنَّا، وَتَرُدُّ أَرْوَاحَنَا حَتَّى تُقْتَلَ فِي سَبِيلِكِ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى «١» .
٤٤٩٢ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بُكَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنِي عَطَاءُ بْنُ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى: أَمْوَاتاً بَلْ أَحْيَاءٌ يَعْنِي: أَرْوَاحُ الشُّهَدَاءِ أَحْيَاءٌ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ يُرْزَقُونَ «٢» .
٤٤٩٣ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، ثنا سَلَمَةُ قَالَ: قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ: قَوْلَهُ: أَمْوَاتاً بَلْ أَحْيَاءٌ أَيْ: قَدْ أَحْيَيْتُهُمْ فَهُمْ عِنْدِي يُرْزَقُونَ فِي رَوْحِ الْجَنَّةِ وَفَضْلِهَا، مَسْرُورِينَ بِمَا آتَاهُمُ اللَّهُ مِنْ ثَوَابِهِ عَلَى جِهَادِهِمْ عَنْهُ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: يُرْزَقُونَ
٤٤٩٤ - حَدَّثَنَا سَعْدَانُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ، ثنا صَدَقَةُ بْنُ سَابِقٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، حَدَّثَنِي الْحَارِثُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ الأَنْصَارِيُّ، عَنْ مَحْمُودِ بْنِ لَبِيدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: الشُّهَدَاءُ عَلَى بَارِقِ نَهَرٍ بِبَابِ الْجَنَّةِ، فِي قُبَّةٍ خَضْرَاءَ، عَلَيْهِمْ رَزْقُهُمْ بَكْرَةً وَعَشِيّاً.
٤٤٩٥ - حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ، ثنا شَبَابَةُ، ثنا وَرْقَاءُ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَوْلَهُ: يُرْزَقُونَ قَالَ: إِنْ كَانَ يَقُولُ: يُرْزَقُونَ مِنْ ثَمَرِ الْجَنَّةِ، وَيَجِدُونَ رِيحَهَا وَلَيْسُوا فِيهَا.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: فَرِحِينَ بِمَا آتَاهُمُ اللَّهُ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ
٤٤٩٦ - قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ مُوسَى، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بن علي، أنبأ محمد ابْنُ مُزَاحِمٍ، عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ مَعْرُوفٍ، عَنْ مُقَاتِلِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ قَوْلَهُ: فَرِحِينَ بِمَا آتَاهُمُ اللَّهُ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ بِمَا هُمْ فِيهِ مِنَ الْخَيْرِ وَالْكَرَامَةِ وَالرِّزْقِ.
