His saying, the Exalted: "humiliating punishment."

4556 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn ‘Ali narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim narrated to us, Bukayr ibn Ma‘ruf narrated to us, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan, regarding His saying: "humiliating punishment," he means by "humiliating" (al-muhin): disgrace (al-hawan).

His saying, the Exalted: "Allah would not leave the believers"

4557 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, he said: The disbelievers say: "Allah would not leave the believers in the state you are in."

4558 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-‘Abbas informed us, Yazid narrated to us, Sa‘id narrated to us, from Qatadah: Regarding His saying: "Allah would not leave the believers in the state you are in," he means: the disbelievers, saying: He would not leave the believers in the state you are in of misguidance.

4559 - Ahmad ibn ‘Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi narrated to us, Ahmad ibn al-Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, he said: They said: If Muhammad is truthful, let him inform us of who among us will believe in him and who will disbelieve, so Allah, the Exalted, revealed: "Allah would not leave the believers in the state you are in."

4560 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, regarding His saying: "in the state you are in": [i.e.,] in the state of disbelief.

4561 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, ‘Ali ibn Zingah narrated to us, ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, from al-Husayn ibn Waqid, from Matar, regarding His saying: "Allah would not leave the believers in the state you are in": [i.e.,] in the state of misguidance.

His saying, the Exalted: "until He separates the evil from the good"

[The first interpretation]

4562 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu‘awiyah narrated to me, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn ‘Abbas: "until He separates the evil from the good": He separates the people of happiness from the people of wretchedness.

[The second interpretation]

4563 - Ahmad ibn ‘Uthman ibn Hakim narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "until He separates the evil from the good": until He distinguishes the disbeliever from the believer.

4564 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa’ narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "until He separates the evil from the good": He separated among them on the day of Uhud the hypocrite from the believer.

٤٥٥٦ - قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُزَاحِمٍ، ثنا بُكَيْرُ بْنُ مَعْرُوفٍ، عَنْ مُقَاتِلِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ قَوْلُهُ: عَذَابٌ مُهِينٌ يَعْنِي بِالْمُهِينَ:

الْهَوَانَ.

قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: مَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيَذَرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

٤٥٥٧ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: يَقُولُ الْكُفَّارُ: مَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيَذَرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلَى مَا أَنْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ.

٤٥٥٨ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، أَنْبَأَ الْعَبَّاسُ، ثنا يَزِيدُ، ثنا سَعِيدٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ:

قَوْلَهُ: مَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيَذَرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلَى مَا أَنْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ يَعْنِي: الْكُفَّارَ، يَقُولُ: لَمْ يَكُنْ لَيَدَعُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلَى مَا أَنْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الضَّلالَةِ.

٤٥٥٩ - حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ الأَوْدِيُّ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ، ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ قَالَ: قَالُوا: إِنْ كَانَ مُحَمَّدٌ صَادِقاً، فَلْيُخْبِرْنَا بِمَنْ يُؤْمِنُ بِهِ مِنَّا وَمَنْ يَكْفُرُ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى: مَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيَذَرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ على ما أَنْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ

٤٥٦٠ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَوْلَهُ: عَلَى مَا أَنْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ: مِنَ الْكُفْرِ.

٤٥٦١ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ زِنْجَةَ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ وَاقِدٍ، عَنْ مَطَرٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: مَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيَذَرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلَى مَا أَنْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ:

مِنَ الضَّلالَةِ.

قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: حَتَّى يَمِيزَ الْخَبِيثَ مِنَ الطيب

٤٥٦٢ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ حَتَّى يَمِيزَ الْخَبِيثَ مِنَ الطَّيِّبِ: فَيَمِيزُ أهل السعادة من أهل الشقاء.

٤٥٦٣ - حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُفَضَّلٍ، ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ قَوْلَهُ: حَتَّى يَمِيزَ الْخَبِيثَ مِنَ الطَّيِّبِ: حَتَّى يُخْرِجَ الْكَافِرَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِ.

٤٥٦٤ - حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ، ثنا شَبَابَةُ، ثنا وَرْقَاءُ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَوْلَهُ: حَتَّى يَمِيزَ الْخَبِيثَ مِنَ الطَّيِّبِ: مَيَّزَ مِنْهُمْ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ الْمُنَافِقَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِ.
