His saying, the Exalted: "humiliating punishment."
4556 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn ‘Ali narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim narrated to us, Bukayr ibn Ma‘ruf narrated to us, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan, regarding His saying: "humiliating punishment," he means by "humiliating" (al-muhin): disgrace (al-hawan).
His saying, the Exalted: "Allah would not leave the believers"
4557 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, he said: The disbelievers say: "Allah would not leave the believers in the state you are in."
4558 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-‘Abbas informed us, Yazid narrated to us, Sa‘id narrated to us, from Qatadah: Regarding His saying: "Allah would not leave the believers in the state you are in," he means: the disbelievers, saying: He would not leave the believers in the state you are in of misguidance.
4559 - Ahmad ibn ‘Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi narrated to us, Ahmad ibn al-Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, he said: They said: If Muhammad is truthful, let him inform us of who among us will believe in him and who will disbelieve, so Allah, the Exalted, revealed: "Allah would not leave the believers in the state you are in."
4560 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, regarding His saying: "in the state you are in": [i.e.,] in the state of disbelief.
4561 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, ‘Ali ibn Zingah narrated to us, ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, from al-Husayn ibn Waqid, from Matar, regarding His saying: "Allah would not leave the believers in the state you are in": [i.e.,] in the state of misguidance.
His saying, the Exalted: "until He separates the evil from the good"

4562 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu‘awiyah narrated to me, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn ‘Abbas: "until He separates the evil from the good": He separates the people of happiness from the people of wretchedness.
[The second interpretation]
4563 - Ahmad ibn ‘Uthman ibn Hakim narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "until He separates the evil from the good": until He distinguishes the disbeliever from the believer.
4564 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa’ narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "until He separates the evil from the good": He separated among them on the day of Uhud the hypocrite from the believer.
