His saying, the Exalted: "They will be circled by what they withheld on the Day of Resurrection"

[The first interpretation]

4578 - My father narrated to us, al-Humaydi narrated to us, Sufyan ibn ‘Uyaynah narrated to us, Jami‘ ibn Abi Rashid and ‘Abd al-Malik ibn A‘yan narrated to us, from Abu Wa’il, from ‘Abdullah, who said: The Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "There is no man who does not pay the Zakah of his wealth except that it will be represented to him on the Day of Resurrection as a bald snake with two spots (above its eyes) that will coil around his neck." Then the Messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recited to us the confirmation of that from the Book of Allah, the Exalted: "They will be circled by what they withheld on the Day of Resurrection."

4579 - Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us, ‘Abd al-Rahman, meaning: Ibn Mahdi, narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Abu Ishaq, from Abu Wa’il, from ‘Abdullah: "They will be circled by what they withheld on the Day of Resurrection." He said: A serpent that pecks the head of one of them and says: "I am your wealth that you withheld."

4580 - Yunus ibn Habib narrated to us, Abu Dawud narrated to us, Shu‘bah narrated to us, with his chain of narration similarly, and he said: "A black one that twists around the head of one of them."

4581 - My father narrated to us, al-Husayn ibn al-Rabi‘ narrated to us, Abu al-Ahwas narrated to us, from ‘Asim, from Abu Wa’il, from ‘Abdullah: "They will be circled by what they withheld on the Day of Resurrection." He said: He will be circled by a bald snake having two spots, pecking his head. He said: He says, "My wealth, what is between you and me?" He says: "I am your wealth that you withheld."

4582 - Ahmad ibn ‘Isam narrated to us, Mu’ammal narrated to us, Isra’il narrated to us, Hakim ibn Jubayr narrated to us, from Salim ibn Abi al-Ja‘d, from his father, from Masruq, who said: I asked ‘Abdullah about His saying: "They will be circled by what they withheld on the Day of Resurrection." He said: He will be circled by a bald snake that will bite his cheeks.

The second interpretation:

4583 - Muhammad ibn Sa‘d al-‘Awfi informed us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my uncle al-Husayn narrated to me, from his father, from his grandfather, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "They will be circled by what they withheld on the Day of Resurrection." Abu Muhammad said: It is also narrated from Mujahid that he said: They will be tasked with bringing what they withheld.
