And the Second Aspect:

4632 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas informed us, Yazid narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding "and not conceal it," he said: Beware of concealing knowledge, for the concealment of knowledge is destruction. Let no man take upon himself that of which he has no knowledge, lest he depart from the religion of Allah and be among those who overburden themselves.

4633 - Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Shafi'i informed me in what he wrote to me, he said: My father read to my paternal uncle, or my paternal uncle to my father, he said: Sufyan said regarding: "And when Allah took the covenant of those who were given the Scripture, [that] you must make it clear to the people and not conceal it": It means that you must forbid evil, enjoin good, make the good appear good, and make the ugly appear ugly.

His saying, the Exalted: "But they threw it away behind their backs"

4634 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Ibn Idris and Abu Usamah narrated to us—and the wording is Ibn Idris's—from Yahya ibn Ayyub al-Bajali, from al-Sha'bi regarding His saying: "But they threw it away behind their backs," both said: They used to read it, but they cast aside acting upon it.

4635 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman narrated to us, Ahmad ibn al-Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "But they threw it away behind their backs": They threw the covenant behind their backs.

His saying, the Exalted: "And they purchased with it a small price"

4636 - Al-Hasan ibn Ahmad narrated to us, Musa ibn Muhkam narrated to us, Abu Bakr al-Hanafi narrated to us, 'Abbad ibn Mansur narrated to us, from al-Hasan regarding His saying: "And they purchased with it a small price," he said: They concealed it and sold it, so they would not disclose anything except for a price.

4637 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Ali ibn Hamzah narrated to us, 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Ibn al-Mubarak informed us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Yazid ibn Jabir informed us, from Harun ibn Yazid, he said: Al-Hasan was asked about His saying: "a small price," he said: The small price is the world in its entirety.

His saying, the Exalted: "And wretched is what they purchased"

4638 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "And wretched is what they purchased," he said: The Jews' alteration of the Torah.
