His saying, the Exalted: "And what is with Allah is better for the righteous."
4679 - Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us, Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us, al-A'mash narrated to us, from Khaythamah, from al-Aswad, he said: 'Abdullah said: There is no soul, righteous or wicked, for whom death is not better. If he was righteous, Allah has indeed said: "And what is with Allah is better for the righteous."
4680 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Janab narrated to us, 'Isa ibn Yunus narrated to us, from 'Ubayd Allah ibn al-Walid al-Wassafi, from Muharib ibn Dithar, from Ibn 'Umar, he said: Allah only named them righteous (abrar) because they were dutiful (barru) to their fathers and their sons; just as your father has a right upon you, likewise your child has a right upon you.
4681 - My father narrated to us, Muslim ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, Hisham al-Dastawa'i narrated to us, from a man, from al-Hasan, he said regarding "for the righteous": Those who do not harm even an ant.
His saying, the Exalted: "And indeed, among the People of the Scripture are those who believe in Allah and what was revealed to you and what was revealed to them, [being] humbly submissive to Allah."
4682 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn al-Qasim ibn Abi Bazzah al-Makki, the caller to prayer at the Mosque of the Kaaba, narrated to us, Mu'ammal ibn Isma'il narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Thabit, from Anas, he said: When the Negus died, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Seek forgiveness for your brother." Some of the people said: He commands us to seek forgiveness for this 'ilj (non-Arab disbeliever) who died in the land of Abyssinia! So [the verse] was revealed: "And indeed, among the People of the Scripture are those who believe in Allah and what was revealed to you and what was revealed to them."
4683 - My father narrated to us, Ibn 'A'ishah narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Thabit, from al-Hasan, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Seek forgiveness for your brother, the Negus," and he mentioned the like of it.
4684 - My father narrated to us, Abu Hudhayfah narrated to us, Shibl narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "And indeed, among the People of the Scripture are those who believe in Allah": From the Jews and the Christians, and they are the Muslims of the People of the Scripture.
4685 - Al-Hasan ibn Ahmad narrated to us, Musa ibn Muhkam narrated to us, Abu Bakr al-Hanafi narrated to us, 'Abbad ibn Mansur narrated to us, he said: I asked al-Hasan about His saying: "And indeed, among the People of the Scripture are those who believe in Allah and what was revealed to you and what was revealed to them, [being] humbly submissive to Allah," he said: They are the People of the Scripture who were before Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who followed Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَمَا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ خَيْرٌ لِلأَبْرَارِ
٤٦٧٩ - حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ، ثنا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، ثنا الأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ، عَنِ الأَسْوَدِ قَالَ: قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، مَا مِنْ نَفْسٍ بَرَّةٍ وَلا فَاجِرَةٍ إِلا الْمَوْتُ خَيْرٌ لَهَا، لَئِنْ كَانَ بَرّاً لَقَدْ قَالَ اللَّهُ: وَمَا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ خَيْرٌ لِلأَبْرَارِ.
٤٦٨٠ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ جَنَابٍ، ثنا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ الْوَصَّافِيِّ، عَنْ مُحَارِبِ بْنِ دِثَارٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ: إِنَّمَا سَمَّاهُمُ اللَّهُ أَبْرَاراً لأَنَّهُمْ بَرُّوا الآبَاءَ وَالأَبْنَاءَ، كَمَا أَنَّ لِوَالِدِكَ عَلَيْكَ حَقّاً، كَذَلِكَ لِوَلَدِكَ عَلَيْكَ حَقّاً.
٤٦٨١ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ثنا هِشَامٌ الدَّسْتُوَائِيُّ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ: لِلأَبْرَارِ: الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْذُونَ الذَّرَّ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَإِنَّ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ لِمَنْ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْكُمْ وَمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْهِمْ خَاشِعِينَ لِلَّهِ
٤٦٨٢ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ أَبِي بَزَّةَ الْمَكِّيُّ مُؤَذِّنُ مَسْجِدِ الْكَعْبَةِ، ثنا مُؤَمَّلُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ: لَمَّا مَاتَ النَّجَاشِيُّ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: اسْتَغْفِرُوا لأَخِيكُمْ.
فَقَالَ بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ: يَأْمُرُنَا أَنْ نَسْتَغْفِرَ لِهَذَا الْعِلْجَ يَمُوتُ بِأَرْضِ الْحَبَشَةِ، فَنَزَلَتْ: وَإِنَّ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ لَمَنْ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْكُمْ وَمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْهِمْ.
٤٦٨٣ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا ابْنُ عَائِشَةَ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ «١»
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: اسْتَغْفِرُوا لأَخِيكُمُ النَّجَاشِيِّ، فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ.
٤٦٨٤ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو حُذَيْفَةَ، ثنا شِبْلٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَوْلَهُ: وَإِنَّ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ لِمَنْ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ: مِنَ الْيَهُودِ وَالنَّصَارَى، وَهُمْ مُسْلِمَةُ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ.
٤٦٨٥ - حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ مُحْكَمٍ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْحَنَفِيُّ، ثنا عَبَّادُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ الْحَسَنَ عَنْ قَوْلِهِ: وَإِنَّ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ لَمَنْ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْكُمْ وَمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْهِمْ خَاشِعِينَ لِلَّهِ قَالَ: هُمْ أَهْلُ الْكِتَابِ الَّذِينَ كَانُوا قَبْلَ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، الَّذِينَ اتَّبَعُوا مُحَمَّداً صلى الله عليه وسلم.
