4724 - My father narrated to us, Hassan ibn 'Abd Allah al-Wasiti narrated to us, al-Sari ibn Yahya narrated to us, he said: Al-Hasan recited this verse: "And fear Allah, through whom you ask, and the kinship." [He said]: If you are asked by [the name of] Allah, then give, and if you are asked by the kinship, then give; meaning: the kinship that is between you and him.
4725 - My father narrated to us, 'Ubayd Allah ibn Musa narrated to us, Abu Ja'far informed us, from al-Rabi' regarding His saying: "Fear Allah, through whom you ask, and the kinship," he said: That which you pledge and believe in. It was narrated from Ibrahim al-Nakha'i and 'Ikrimah the same as the saying of Mujahid.

It was narrated from al-Dahhak the same. And it was narrated from Muqatil ibn Hayyan and 'Ikrimah that they said: Do not sever them.

That is because a man from Ghatafan had a great deal of wealth belonging to an orphaned nephew of his. When the orphan reached [adulthood], he requested his wealth, but his uncle refused him. So he disputed with him before the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and it was revealed: "And give the orphans their wealth," meaning: the guardians. He says: Give the orphans their wealth. And it was narrated from Muqatil ibn Hayyan that he said: The patrons and the guardians.
