His saying, the Exalted: "If you obey a party of those who were given the Scripture, they will turn you back after your belief as disbelievers."
3894 - Al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ja'far ibn Sulayman informed us, from Humayd al-A'raj, from Mujahid, regarding "O you who have believed, if you obey a party of those who were given the Scripture," he said: The collective tribes of the Ansar were two branches: the Aws and the Khazraj, and there was war, bloodshed, and hatred between them in the pre-Islamic era, until Allah favored them and united them through Islam. He said: While a man from the Aws and a man from the Khazraj were sitting talking, and a Jew was sitting with them, he did not cease reminding them of their former days and the enmity that was between them until they insulted each other and then fought. He said: So this one called his people and that one called his people, and they went out with weapons and drew up in lines against one another. He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was present in Medina that day. So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, came and did not stop walking among them, to these and to those, to calm them, until they turned back and laid down their weapons. So Allah, the Exalted, revealed about that in the Quran: "O you who have believed, if you obey a party of those who were given the Scripture, they will turn you back after your belief as disbelievers."
3895 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Ja'far narrated to us, from his father, from al-Rabi' ibn Anas, regarding His saying: "O you who have believed, if you obey a party of those who were given the Scripture, they will turn you back after your belief as disbelievers," [meaning] it has preceded concerning them as you hear, and He has warned you against them, and He has informed you of their misguidance; so do not entrust them with your religion, and do not seek their advice regarding yourselves, for they are the enemies, the envious, and the misguided. How can you entrust a people who disbelieved in their own Book and killed their own messengers? Those are the people of suspicion and enmity.
3896 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, 'Ata' narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding "a party" (fariqan), he said: It means a group.

3897 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi narrated to us, Ahmad ibn al-Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding "They will turn you back after your belief as disbelievers," he says: If you took up weapons and fought one another, you would have disbelieved.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: إِنْ تُطِيعُوا فَرِيقاً مِنَ الَّذِينَ أوتوا الكتاب يردوكم بعد إيمانكم كافرين
٣٨٩٤ - حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَبِي الرَّبِيعِ، أَنْبَأَ عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَنْبَأَ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ الأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينُ آمَنُوا إِنْ تُطِيعُوا فَرِيقاً مِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ قَالَ: كَانَ جِمَاعُ قَبَائِلِ الأَنْصَارِ بَطْنَيْنِ: الأَوْسُ وَالْخَزْرَجُ، وَكَانَ بَيْنَهُمَا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ حَرْبٌ وَدِمَاءٌ وَشَنَآنٌ، حَتَّى مَنَّ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ، وَأَلَّفَ بَيْنَهُمْ بِالإِسْلامِ قَالَ: فَبَيْنَا رَجُلٌ مِنَ الأَوْسِ وَرَجُلٌ مِنَ الْخَزْرَجِ قَاعِدَانِ يَتَحَدَّثَانِ وَمَعَهُمَا يَهُودِيُّ جَالِسٌ، فَلَمْ يَزَلْ يُذَكِّرُهُمَا بِأَيَّامِهِمَا وَالْعَدَاوَةَ الَّتِي كَانَتْ بَيْنَهُمْ حَتَّى اسْتَبَّا ثُمَّ اقْتَتَلا. قَالَ: فَنَادَى هَذَا قَوْمَهُ وَهَذَا قَوْمَهُ، وَخَرَجُوا بِالسِّلاحِ، وَصَفَّ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ. قَالَ: وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَاهِدٌ بِالْمَدِينَةِ، فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَلَمْ يَزَلْ يَمْشِي بَيْنَهُمْ إِلَى هَؤُلاءِ وَهَؤُلاءِ لِيُسَكِّنَهُمْ حَتَّى رَجَعُوا وَوَضَعُوا السِّلاحَ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى فِي ذَلِكَ الْقُرْآنَ: يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِنْ تُطِيعُوا فَرِيقًا مِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ يَرُدُّوكُمْ بعد إيمانكم كافرين
٣٨٩٥ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: يَا أيها الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِنْ تُطِيعُوا فَرِيقًا مِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ يَرُدُّوكُمْ بَعْدَ إِيمَانِكُمْ كافرين فَقَدْ تَقَدَّمَ فِيهِمْ كَمَا تَسْمَعُونَ، وَقَدْ حَذَّرَكُمُوهُمْ، وَأَنْبَأَكُمْ بِضَلالَتِكُمْ، فَلا تَأْتَمِنُوهُمْ عَلَى دِينِكُمْ، وَلا تَنْتَصِحُوهُمْ عَلَى أَنْفُسِكُمْ، فَإِنَّهُمُ الأَعْدَاءُ وَالْحَسَدَةُ وَالضُّلالُ، كَيْفَ تَأْتِمِنُونُ قَوْماً كَفَرُوا بِكِتَابِهِمْ وَقَتَلُوا رُسُلَهُمْ؟ أُولَئِكَ هُمْ أَهْلُ التُّهْمَةِ وَالْعَدَاوَةِ.
٣٨٩٦ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي عَطَاءٌ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ فَرِيقاً يَعْنِي طَائِفَةً.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: يَرُدُّوكُمْ بَعْدَ إِيمَانِكُمْ كَافِرِينَ
٣٨٩٧ - حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ الأَوْدِيُّ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ، ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ يَرُدُّوكُمْ بَعْدَ إِيمَانِكُمْ كَافِرِينَ يَقُولُ: إِنْ حَمَلْتُمُ السِّلاحَ فَاقْتَتَلْتُمْ كَفَرْتُمْ.
