The second interpretation:

4963 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn Abdullah ibn Bukayr narrated to us, from Ibn Lahi'ah, Ata' ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger," meaning: whoever disbelieves in the division of inheritances; and they are the hypocrites, for they did not consider that women and young children had a portion of the inheritance.

His saying, the Exalted: "And transgresses His limits"

4966 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih, the scribe of al-Layth, narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn Abbas regarding His saying: "And transgresses His limits," meaning: whoever is not satisfied with Allah's division and transgresses what He has stated.

4967 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya narrated to us, Abdullah narrated to us, Ata' narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "And transgresses His limits," meaning: violates His command regarding the division of inheritances.

His saying, the Exalted: "He will admit him to the Fire to abide eternally therein"

4968 - And by the same chain from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "He will admit him to the Fire to abide eternally therein," meaning: he will abide eternally therein due to his disbelief in the division of inheritances; "and for him is a humiliating punishment."

4969 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn Ali narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim narrated to us, from Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf, from Muqatil regarding His saying: "And for him is a humiliating punishment," meaning: the humiliating [punishment] is disgrace.

His saying, the Exalted: "And those who commit immorality from among your women"

4970 - al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn al-Sabbah narrated to us, Hajjaj narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, and Uthman ibn Ata', from Ata', from Ibn Abbas regarding His saying: "And those who commit immorality from among your women": This immorality in these verses was [the ruling] before the descent of Surah al-Nur regarding flogging and stoning. If she were to commit a clear act of immorality today, she would be taken out and stoned with stones. Then this verse abrogated it: "The woman and the man guilty of illegal sexual intercourse, flog each of them with a hundred stripes," and the path that Allah has ordained for them is flogging and stoning.
