His saying, the Exalted: "He says, 'I have repented now.'"
5019 - Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Ibn Numayr narrated to us, Mus'ab ibn al-Miqdam narrated to us, from Sharik, from al-A'mash, from Ibrahim, from 'Abd Allah, concerning "Until, when death approaches one of them, he says, 'I have repented now,'" he said: That is not accepted from him.
His saying, the Exalted: "Nor those who die while they are disbelievers."
5020 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih (the scribe of al-Layth) narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: "And repentance is not..." up to his saying: "Nor those who die while they are disbelievers," he said: Allah the Exalted then revealed after that: "Indeed, Allah does not forgive associating others with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills," and so Allah forbade forgiveness for whoever dies while he is a disbeliever.
5021 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Ja'far narrated to us, from his father, from al-Rabi' ibn Anas, from Abu al-'Aliyah regarding His saying: "Nor those who die while they are disbelievers," he said: This is regarding the people of Shirk. (It was also narrated from Ibn 'Abbas and al-Rabi' ibn Anas something similar).
His saying, the Exalted: "Those for whom We have prepared a painful punishment."
5022 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab ibn al-Harith narrated to us, Bishr ibn 'Amarah informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "punishment (adhab)" he says: a penalty (nakal).
His saying, the Exalted: "Painful (alima)."
5023 - Ahmad ibn 'Amr ibn Abi 'Asim al-Nabil narrated to us, my father 'Amr narrated to me, my father narrated to us, Shabib ibn Bishr informed us, 'Ikrimah informed us, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Painful," he said: Everything that causes pain.
5024 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, Abu Ja'far al-Razi narrated to us, from al-Rabi' ibn Anas, from Abu al-'Aliyah regarding His saying: "Painful," he said: "Al-alim" is that which causes pain everywhere in the Quran. (It was also narrated from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, al-Dahhak, Qatadah, Abu Malik, Abu 'Imran al-Jawni, and Muqatil ibn Hayyan something similar).
His saying, the Exalted: "O you who have believed."
5025 - Zayd ibn Isma'il al-Sa'igh narrated to us, Mu'awiyah—meaning the son of Hisham—narrated to me, from 'Isa ibn Rashid, from 'Ali ibn Badhimah, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: There is no verse in the Quran saying "O you who have believed" except that it is directed toward its master, its noble one, and its leader. And there is no one among the companions of Muhammad who was not reproved in the Quran, except for 'Ali ibn Abi Talib, for he was not reproved in any of it.

٥٠١٩ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، ثنا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، ثنا مُصْعَبُ بْنُ الْمِقْدَامِ، عَنْ شَرِيكٍ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ حَتَّى إِذَا حَضَرَ أَحَدَهُمُ الْمَوْتُ قَالَ إِنِّي تُبْتُ الآنَ قَالَ: لَا يُقْبَلُ ذَاكَ مِنْهُ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَلا الَّذِينَ يَمُوتُونَ وَهُمْ كُفَّارٌ
٥٠٢٠ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ كَاتِبُ اللَّيْثِ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَوْلَهُ: وَلَيْسَتِ التَّوْبَةُ إِلَى قَوْلِهِ: وَلا الَّذِينَ يَمُوتُونَ وَهُمْ كُفَّارٌ قَالَ: فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ: إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَغْفِرُ أَنْ يُشْرَكَ بِهِ وَيَغْفِرُ ما دُونَ ذَلِكَ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ فَحَرَّمَ اللَّهُ الْمَغْفِرَةَ عَلَى مَنْ مَاتَ وَهُوَ كَافِرٌ.
٥٠٢١ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ فِي قَوْلِهِ: وَلا الَّذِينَ يَمُوتُونَ وَهُمْ كُفَّارٌ قَالَ: هَذَا فِي أَهْلِ الشِّرْكِ- وَرُوِيَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، وَالرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: أُولَئِكَ أَعْتَدْنَا لَهُمْ عَذَاباً أَلِيماً
٥٠٢٢ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا مِنْجَابُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، أَنْبَأَ بِشْرُ بْنُ عُمَارَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي رَوْقٍ، عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: عَذَاباً يَقُولُ: نَكَالا.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: أَلِيماً
٥٠٢٣ - حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ أَبِي عَاصِمٍ النَّبِيلُ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَمْرٌو، ثنا أَبِي، أَنْبَأَ شَبِيبُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ، أَنْبَأَ عِكْرِمَةُ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: أَلِيماً قَالَ: كُلُّ شَيْءٍ وَجَعٌ.
٥٠٢٤ - حَدَّثَنَا عِصَامُ بْنُ رَوَّادٍ، ثنا آدَمُ، ثنا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ الرَّازِيُّ، عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ فِي قَوْلِهِ: أَلِيماً قَالَ: الأَلِيمَ: الْمُوجِعُ فِي الْقُرْآنِ كُلِّهِ- وَرُوِيَ عَنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ وَالضَّحَّاكِ وَقَتَادَةَ وَأَبِي مَالِكٍ وَأَبِي عِمْرَانَ الْجَوْنِيِّ وَمُقَاتِلِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا
٥٠٢٥ - حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الصَّائِغُ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ يَعْنِي: ابْنَ هِشَامٍ، عَنْ عِيسَى بْنِ رَاشِدٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ بَذِيمَةَ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: مَا فِي الْقُرْآنِ آيَةُ: يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِلا كَانَ عَلَى سَيِّدَهَا وَشَرِيفَهَا وَأَمِيرَهَا، وَمَا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ إِلا قَدْ عُوتِبَ فِي الْقُرْآنِ إِلا عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ فَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يُعَاتَبْ فِي شَيْءٍ مِنْهُ.
