5081 - Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Habib, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: Seven [types of women] by lineage and seven by marriage were prohibited to you. And he recited: "Prohibited to you are your mothers, your daughters..." up to the end of the verse.

Then he recited: "Prohibited to you are your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your paternal aunts, your maternal aunts, brother’s daughters, and sister’s daughters." This constitutes the lineage [prohibitions].

His saying, the Almighty: "And your mothers who nursed you and your sisters through nursing"

'Ali said: She is in the position of the stepdaughter, meaning His saying: "And the mothers of your wives."

5086 - Ja'far ibn Muhammad ibn Harun ibn 'Azrah narrated to us, 'Abd al-Wahhab narrated to us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, that he used to say: If a man divorces a woman before he consummates the marriage with her or she dies, her mother is not lawful for him, as he said: It is ambiguous, so he disliked it. It has been narrated from Ibn Mas'ud, 'Imran ibn Husayn, Masruq, Tawus, 'Ikrimah, 'Ata', al-Hasan, Makhul, Ibn Sirin, Qatadah, and al-Zuhri similar to this.
