3923 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "And remember the favor of Allah upon you," he said: The favors are the bounties of Allah.
His saying, the Exalted: "When you were enemies."
[The first interpretation]
3924 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl ibn Musa, Muhammad ibn 'Ali ibn al-Hasan narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim informed us, from Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan regarding His saying: "And remember the favor of Allah upon you, when you were enemies" in the Jahiliyyah.
3925 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Ja'far narrated to us, from his father, from al-Rabi' regarding His saying: "When you were enemies," killing one another, and your strong would eat your weak, until Allah brought Islam and reconciled you through it.
The second interpretation:
3926 - 'Ali ibn al-Mubarak informed us in what he wrote to me, Zayd ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, Ibn Thawr narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj regarding "When you were enemies," he said: That which was between the Aws and the Khazraj in the matter of 'Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her.
His saying, the Exalted: "Then He reconciled your hearts."
3927 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi narrated to us, Ahmad ibn al-Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "And remember the favor of Allah upon you, when you were enemies, then He reconciled your hearts" through Islam. It was narrated from Mujahid, Muqatil ibn Hayyan, and al-Rabi' ibn Anas something similar to that.
3928 - My father narrated to us, Abu Ma'mar 'Abd Allah ibn 'Amr ibn Abi al-Hajjaj al-Minqari narrated to us, 'Abd al-Warith narrated to us, 'Ali ibn Zayd narrated to us, from Anas ibn Malik who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "O assembly of the Ansar, with what do you reproach me? Did I not come to you when you were astray and Allah guided you through me? And I came to you when you were enemies and Allah reconciled your hearts?" They said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah."
His saying, the Exalted: "Then you became brothers by His favor."
3929 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn 'Ali ibn al-Hasan narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim narrated to us, from Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan regarding "Then you became brothers by His favor," meaning: by His mercy, i.e., Islam; and the believers are brothers.
٣٩٢٣ - حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ، ثنا شَبَابَةُ، ثنا وَرْقَاءُ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ في قوله: واذكروا نعمت اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ قَالَ: النِّعَمُ آلاءُ اللَّهِ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: إِذْ كنتم أعداء

٣٩٢٤ - قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ مُوسَى، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ أَنْبَأَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُزَاحِمٍ عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ مَعْرُوفٍ، عَنْ مُقَاتِلِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ قَوْلَهُ: وَاذْكُرُواْ نِعْمَتَ اللهِ عَلَيْكُمْ إِذْ كُنتُمْ أَعْدَاء فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ.
٣٩٢٥ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ قَوْلَهُ: إِذْ كُنْتُمْ أَعْدَاءً يَقْتُلُ بَعْضُكُمْ بَعْضاً، وَيَأْكُلُ شَدِيدُكُمْ ضَعِيفَكُمْ حَتَّى جَاءَ اللَّهُ بِالإِسْلامِ فَأَلَّفَ بِهِ بَيْنَكُمْ.
الْوَجْهُ الثَّانِي:
٣٩٢٦ - أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ، ثنا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، ثنا ابْنُ ثَوْرٍ، عن ابن جريح إِذْ كُنْتُمْ أَعْدَاءً قَالَ: مَا كَانَ بَيْنَ الأَوْسِ وَالْخَزْرَجِ فِي شَأْنِ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: فَأَلَّفَ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِكُمْ
٣٩٢٧ - حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ الأَوْدِيُّ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ، ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ قَوْلَهُ: وَاذْكُرُواْ نِعْمَتَ اللهِ عَلَيْكُمْ إِذْ كُنتُمْ أَعْدَاء فَأَلَّفَ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِكُمْ بِالإِسْلامِ. وَرُوِيَ عَنِ مُجَاهِدٍ وَمُقَاتِلِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ وَالرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ.
٣٩٢٨ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ عَبْدُ الله بن عمرو بْنُ أَبِي الْحَجَّاجِ الْمِنْقَرِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: يَا مَعْشَرَ الأَنْصَارِ بِمَ تَمُنُّونَ عَلَيَّ؟ أليس جئتكم ضلال فَهَدَاكُمُ اللَّهُ بِي؟
وَجِئْتُكُمْ أَعْدَاءً فَأَلَّفَ اللَّهُ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِكُمْ؟ قَالُوا: بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: فَأَصْبَحْتُمْ بِنِعْمَتِهِ إِخْوَاناً
٣٩٢٩ - قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُزَاحِمٍ، عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ مَعْرُوفٍ، عَنْ مُقَاتِلِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ فَأَصْبَحْتُمْ بِنِعْمَتِهِ بِرَحْمَتِهِ يَعْنِي: الإِسْلامَ إِخْوَاناً، وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ إِخْوَةٌ.
