Translation · EN

5215 - 'Ali ibn Harb al-Mawsili narrated to us, Ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from Ash'ath, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: "Everything for which Allah has promised the Fire is a major sin." It was narrated from al-Hasan something similar.

5216 - My father narrated to us, Qabisah narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Layth, from Tawus, who said: I asked Ibn 'Abbas: "What are the seven major sins?" He said: "They are closer to seventy than they are to seven." It was narrated from Abu al-'Aliyah something similar.

5217 - My father narrated to us, Harun ibn Zayd ibn Abi al-Zarqa' narrated to us, my father narrated to us, Shibl narrated to us, from Qays, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, that a man asked Ibn 'Abbas: "How many are the major sins? Are they seven?" He said: "They are closer to seven hundred than they are to seven, and there is no major sin with [the act of] seeking forgiveness (istighfar), and no minor sin with persistence (israr)."

5218 - Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad ibn Shanbah al-Wasiti narrated to us, Abu Ahmad narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Muslim, from Masruq, from 'A'ishah, who said: "What was taken from the women [to swear to] as major sins..." Abu Muhammad [Ibn Abi Hatim] said: He means His saying the Exalted: "...that they will not associate anything with Allah, nor will they steal, nor will they commit adultery," [up to the end of] the verse (1).

5219 - It was read to Yunus ibn 'Abd al-A'la, Ibn Wahb reported to us, 'Abd Allah ibn 'Ayyash told me, he said: Zayd ibn Aslam said regarding the saying of Allah the Exalted: "If you avoid the major sins which you are forbidden...": "Among the major sins are: Shirk (associating partners with Allah), disbelief in the signs of Allah and His messengers, witchcraft, killing of children, and whoever calls for Allah a child or a companion, and similar acts and speech with which no deed is valid. As for every sin with which [one's] religion remains valid and with which a deed is accepted, then Allah the Exalted pardons the bad deeds through the good deeds."

His saying the Exalted: "We will absolve you of your evil deeds."

5220 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "We will absolve you of your evil deeds," he said: "The minor ones."

His saying the Exalted: "And We will admit you to a noble entrance."

5221 - And through the same chain from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "And We will admit you to a noble entrance," he said: "The noble [entrance] is the entry into Paradise."
