5319 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi informed me in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my uncle al-Husayn narrated to me, my father narrated to me from his father, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Those who are stingy," meaning: the People of the Scripture. He says: They conceal [the truth].

And the third view:

5320 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi: "Those who are stingy," they are the Jews who are stingy with the name of Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.

5321 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn al-Mughirah narrated to us, Yazid ibn Zuray' narrated to us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "Those who are stingy," they are the enemies of Allah, the People of the Scripture; they were stingy with the right of Allah that was upon them.

And the fourth view:

5322 - My father narrated to us, Suwayd ibn Sa'id narrated to us, Hafs ibn Maysarah narrated to us, from Zayd ibn Aslam who said: The stingy person is the one who does not fulfill the right of Allah from his wealth.

And the fifth view:

5323 - Muhammad ibn Hibal wrote to me, he said: 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-Ghaffar said, Ibn 'Uyaynah said: Stinginess is when one withholds the surplus.

My uncle al-Husayn narrated to me, my father narrated to me from his father, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "And enjoin upon people stinginess," he says: And they enjoin upon people concealment.

5324 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim narrated to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "And enjoin upon people stinginess," they enjoined one another to conceal [the mention of] Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.

His saying, the Exalted: "And conceal what Allah has given them of His bounty"

[The first view]

5325 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Abu 'Abd Allah—meaning: al-Harithi—narrated to us, Juwaybir reported to us, from al-Dahhak: "And conceal what Allah has given them of His bounty," he said: They are the People of the Scripture who concealed [the coming of] Muhammad and what was revealed to him. It was also narrated from al-Suddi similar to that.
