His saying, the Exalted: "Pure (tayyib)"

5376 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Abi Hammad narrated to us, Mihran narrated to us, from Sufyan, regarding his saying: "Perform tayammum with a pure (tayyib) surface," he said: It is lawful for you.

5377 - My father narrated to us, Mahmud ibn Khalid narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, he said: I asked Sa'id ibn Bashir about the saying of Allah the Exalted: "Perform tayammum with a pure (tayyib) surface." What is the pure? He informed me that the pure is: that which has been reached by rainfall and has been purified by it.

His saying, the Exalted: "Then wipe your faces and your hands"

5378 - My father narrated to us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn al-Mughirah narrated to us, Yazid ibn Zuray' informed us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah, regarding his saying: "Then wipe your faces and your hands." If water troubles you, let not the surface (sa'id) trouble you; place your palms upon it, then shake them off, and wipe with them your face and your palms. There is no [need] after that for ghusl (full washing) due to janaba (impurity), nor for wudu' (ablution) for prayer. Whoever performs tayammum with the surface and prays, then attains water afterward, then upon him is the ghusl, but his prayer which he has performed is sufficient for him.

His saying, the Exalted: "Indeed, Allah is ever Pardoning, Forgiving"

5379 - It was mentioned from Yazid ibn Abi Hakim al-'Adani, al-Hakam ibn Aban narrated to us, he said: Salamah ibn Wahram, a companion of Tawus, mentioned that Allah, blessed and exalted is He, only named Himself the Pardoning (al-'Afuw) so that He may pardon, and the Forgiving (al-Ghafur) so that He may forgive.

5380 - 'Amr ibn 'Abd Allah al-Awdi narrated to us, Waki' narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Yahya ibn Sa'id, from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib, he said: There is nothing more beloved to me than pardon ('afw).

His saying, the Exalted: "Have you not seen those who were given a portion of the Scripture"

5381 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, Abu Ghassan—meaning Zunayj—informed us, Salamah narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said, Muhammad ibn Abi Muhammad, the freed slave of the family of Zayd ibn Thabit, informed me, from 'Ikrimah, the freed slave of Ibn 'Abbas, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: Rifa'ah ibn Zayd ibn al-Tabut was one of the notables of the Jews. When he spoke to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), he would twist his tongue and say: "Listen to us (ra'ina), O Muhammad, so that we may understand you," then he would attack Islam and criticize it. So Allah the Exalted revealed concerning him: "Have you not seen those who were given a portion of the Scripture."
