[His saying, the Exalted: "May you not be heard"]

[The first interpretation]

5394 - And through the same chain, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "and hear, may you not be heard," he said: They would say to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace: Listen, may you not be heard.

The second interpretation:

5395 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "and hear, may you not be heard," he said: What you say is not accepted.

The third interpretation:

5396 - Al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ma'mar informed us, from al-Hasan, regarding: "and hear, may you not be heard," he said: He would say: Hear, may you not be heard from.

5397 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Hammad ibn Talhah narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding: "and hear, may you not be heard": Like your saying: Hear, may you not be humbled.

His saying, the Exalted: "And [say not] ra'ina"

[The first interpretation]

5398 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab narrated to us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "and ra'ina [observe us]," he said: They would say to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace: Lend us your ear. And "ra'ina" is like your saying: Listen to us. It was also narrated from Abu al-'Aliyah, Abu Malik, 'Atiyyah, al-Rabi' ibn Anas, and Qatadah similarly.

The second interpretation:

5399 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "and ra'ina": A disagreement. It was also narrated from 'Ata' similarly.

The third interpretation:

5400 - Al-Hasan ibn Ahmad narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bashshar narrated to us, Surur ibn al-Mughirah al-Wasiti narrated to us, from 'Abbad ibn Mansur, from al-Hasan, regarding His saying: "and ra'ina," he said: "Al-ra'in" from speech means: mocking it.

٥٣٩٤ - وَبِهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: وَاسْمَعْ غَيْرَ مُسْمَعٍ قَالَ يَقُولُونَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اسْمَعْ لَا سَمِعْتَ.

الْوَجْهُ الثَّانِي:

٥٣٩٥ - حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ، ثنا شَبَابَةُ، ثنا وَرْقَاءُ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَوْلَهُ: وَاسْمَعْ غَيْرَ مُسْمَعٍ قَالَ: غَيْرَ مَقْبُولٍ مَا تَقُولُ.

الْوَجْهُ الثَّالِثُ:

٥٣٩٦ - حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَبِي الرَّبِيعِ، أَنْبَأَ عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَنْبَأَ مَعْمَرٌ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ وَاسْمَعْ غَيْرَ مُسْمَعٍ قَالَ: كَانَ يَقُول: اسْمَعْ غَيْرَ مُسْمَعٍ مِنْكَ.

٥٣٩٧ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ حَمَّادٍ بْنِ طَلْحَةَ، ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ اسْمَعْ غَيْرَ مُسْمَعٍ: كَقَوْلِكَ اسْمَعْ غَيْرَ صَاغِرٍ.

قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَرَاعِنَا

٥٣٩٨ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا مِنْجَابٌ، أَنْبَأَ بِشْرٌ بْنُ عُمَارَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي رَوْقٍ، عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَوْلَهُ: وَرَاعِنَا قَالَ: كَانُوا يَقُولُونَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: أَرْعِنَا سَمْعَكَ، وَإِنَّمَا رَاعِنَا كَقَوْلِكَ: خَاطِنَا.

وَرُوِيَ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ، وَأَبِي مَالِكٍ وَعَطِيَّةَ وَالرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ وَقَتَادَةَ نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ «١» .

وَالْوَجْهُ الثَّانِي:

٥٣٩٩ - حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ، ثنا شَبَابَةُ، ثنا وَرْقَاءُ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قوله: وَرَاعِنَا خِلَافٌ- وَرُوِيَ عَنِ عَطَاءٍ نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ.

وَالْوَجْهُ الثَّالِثُ:

٥٤٠٠ - حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بَشَّارٍ، ثنا سُرُورُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ الْوَاسِطِيُّ، عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ قَوْلَهُ: وَرَاعِنَا قَالَ: الرَّاعِنُ من القول: السخري منه.
