His saying, the Exalted: "And hear and look at us"
5407 - Hajjaj narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "Look at us": Understand us.
5408 - My father narrated to us, 'Isa ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Muslim ibn Khalid narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding his saying in His saying: "And hear and look at us": He said: They say: Understand us, do not be hasty with us, we will follow you, if Allah wills.
His saying, the Exalted: "It would have been better for them and more upright, but Allah has cursed them for their disbelief, so they do not believe, except a few"
5409 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, Abu Ghassan informed us, Salamah narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq said, a freed slave of the family of Zayd ibn Thabit narrated to me, from 'Ikrimah: "And if they had said, 'We hear and we obey' and 'Hear and look at us', it would have been better for them and more upright, but Allah has cursed them for their disbelief, so they do not believe, except a few." It was revealed concerning Rifa'ah ibn Zayd ibn al-Tabut, and he was one of the notables of the Jews.
His saying, the Exalted: "O you who were given the Scripture"
5410 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "O you who were given the Scripture": It was revealed concerning Malik ibn al-Sayf and Rifa'ah ibn Zayd ibn al-Sa'ib, from Banu Qaynuqa'.
His saying, the Exalted: "Believe in what We have sent down, confirming what is with you"
5411 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, Abu Ghassan informed us, Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who said: Muhammad ibn Abi Muhammad said, from 'Ikrimah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, spoke to the leaders of the Jews, among them 'Abdullah ibn Suriya the one-eyed, and Ka'b ibn al-Ashraf, and he said: "O assembly of Jews, fear Allah and embrace Islam; for by Allah, you indeed know that what I have brought to you is the truth." They said: "We do not recognize that, O Muhammad." So they denied and did not recognize it, and they persisted in disbelief. Therefore, Allah revealed concerning them: "O you who were given the Scripture, believe in what We have sent down, confirming what is with you."
His saying, the Exalted: "Before We efface faces"

5412 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi informed us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my uncle narrated to me, my father narrated to me, from his father, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "Before We efface faces": And the effacing of them is that they become blind.

٥٤٠٧ - حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ، ثنا شَبَابَةُ، ثنا وَرْقَاءُ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، قَوْلَهُ: انْظُرْنَا: أَفْهِمْنَا.
٥٤٠٨ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا عِيسَى بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، ثنا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَوْلَهُ فِي قَوْلِهِ: وَاسْمَعْ وَانْظُرْنَا قَالَ: يَقُولُونَ: أَفْهِمْنَا لَا تَعْجَلْ عَلَيْنَا سَوْفَ نَتَّبِعُكَ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: لَكَانَ خَيْراً لَهُمْ وَأَقْوَمَ وَلَكِنْ لَعَنَهُمُ اللَّهُ بِكُفْرِهِمْ فلا يؤمنون إلا قليلا
٥٤٠٩ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، أَنْبَأَ أَبُو غَسَّانَ، ثنا سَلَمَةُ قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، حَدَّثَنِي مَوْلَى آلِ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ قَالُوا سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا وَاسْمَعْ وَانْظُرْنَا لَكَانَ خَيْرًا لَهُمْ وَأَقْوَمَ وَلَكِنْ لَعَنَهُمُ اللَّهُ بكفرهم فلا يؤمنون إلا قليلا نَزَلَتْ فِي رِفَاعَةَ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ التَّابُوتِ وَكَانَ مِنْ عُظَمَاءِ الْيَهُودِ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ
٥٤١٠ - حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ الأَوْدِيُّ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُفَضَّلٍ، ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ قَوْلُهُ: يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ: نزلت في مالك بن الصيف رفاعة بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ مِنْ بَنِي قَيْنُقَاعَ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: آمِنُوا بِمَا نَزَّلْنَا مُصَدِّقاً لِمَا مَعَكُمْ
٥٤١١ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، أَنْبَأَ أَبُو غَسَّانَ، ثنا سَلَمَةُ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ: قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ قَالَ: وَكَلَّمَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ رُؤَسَاءُ يَهُودَ مِنْهُمْ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ صُورِيَّا الأَعْوَرُ، وَكَعْبُ بْنُ الْأَشْرَفِ، فَقَالَ: يَا مَعْشَرَ يهود، اتقوا الله وأسلموا فو الله أَنَّكُمْ لَتَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ الَّذِي جِئْتُكُمْ بِهِ لْحَقَّ، قَالُوا: مَا نَعْرِفُ ذَلِكَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ، فَجَحَدُوا وَمَا عَرَفُوا وَأَصَرُّوا عَلَى الْكُفْرِ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ فِيهِمْ: يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ آمِنُوا بِمَا نَزَّلْنَا مُصَدِّقاً لِمَا مَعَكُمْ
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ نَطْمِسَ وُجُوهًا

٥٤١٢ - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ الْعَوْفِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، حَدَّثَنِي عَمِّي، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَوْلَهُ: مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ نَطْمِسَ وُجُوهاً وَطَمْسُهَا أَنْ تُعْمَى.
