the man, for he has accepted Islam and is under my protection." Khalid said: "And since when do you grant protection?" They traded insults and then went to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, who upheld 'Ammar’s protection and forbade him from granting protection a second time against a commander. They traded insults in the presence of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him—meaning 'Ammar and Khalid—so Khalid said: "O Messenger of Allah, will you allow this maimed slave to insult me?" The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "O Khalid, do not insult 'Ammar, for whoever insults 'Ammar, Allah will insult him; whoever hates 'Ammar, Allah will hate him; and whoever curses 'Ammar, Allah will curse him." 'Ammar became angry and stood up, and Khalid followed him until he took hold of his garment and apologized to him, and he was satisfied. Then Allah, Blessed and Exalted, revealed: "And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger."
His saying, the Exalted: "Refer it to Allah"
5541 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Idris narrated to us, from Layth, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah," he said: To the Book of Allah. It was narrated from 'Ata', al-Suddi, Qatadah, Maymun ibn Mihran, and Abu Sinan similar to that.
His saying, the Exalted: "And the Messenger"
5542 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Ibn Idris narrated to us, from Layth, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "refer it to Allah and the Messenger," he said: To the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah.
5543 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "refer it to Allah and the Messenger," he said: If the Messenger is alive. It was narrated from al-Hasan, 'Ata', Qatadah, Maymun ibn Mihran, and Abu Sinan similar to that.
His saying, the Exalted: "if you believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is best"
5544 - My father narrated to us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn al-Mughirah narrated to us, Yazid informed us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "if you believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is best," he says: That is better in reward.
His saying, the Exalted: "and best in interpretation"
5545 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "and best in interpretation," he said: Best in recompense.
5546 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "and best in interpretation," he says: As a final outcome. It was narrated from Qatadah similar to that.
الرَّجُلِ فَإِنَّهُ قَدْ أَسْلَمَ وَهُوَ فِي أَمَانٍ مِنِّي، قَالَ خَالِدٌ: وَفِيمَ أَنْتَ تُجِيرُ، فَاسْتَبَّا فَارْتَفَعَا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَأَجَازَ أَمَانَ عَمَّارٍ، وَنَهَاهُ أَنْ يُجِيرَ الثَّانِيَةَ عَلَى أَمِيرٍ، فَاسْتَبَّا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: يَعْنِي: عَمَّاراً وَخَالِداً-، فَقَالَ خَالِدٌ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَتَتْرُكُ هَذَا الْعَبْدَ الأَجْدَعَ يَشْتُمُنِي، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: يَا خَالِدُ لَا تَسُبَّ عَمَّاراً، فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ سَبَّ عَمَّاراً سَبَّهُ اللَّهُ، وَمَنْ أَبْغَضَ عَمَّاراً أَبْغَضَهُ اللَّهُ، وَمَنْ لَعَنَ عَمَّاراً لَعَنَهُ اللَّهُ، فَغَضِبَ عَمَّارٌ فَقَامَ فَتَبِعَهُ خَالِدٌ حَتَّى أَخَذَ بِثَوْبِهِ فَاعْتَذَرَ إِلَيْهِ، فَرَضِيَ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى فَإِنْ تَنَازَعْتُمْ فِي شَيْءٍ فَرُدُّوهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَالرَّسُولِ
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: فَرُدُّوهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ
٥٥٤١ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: فَإِنْ تَنَازَعْتُمْ فِي شَيْءٍ فَرُدُّوهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ قَالَ: إِلَى كِتَابِ اللَّهِ. وَرُوِيَ عَنِ عَطَاءٍ وَالسُّدِّيِّ وَقَتَادَةَ وَمَيْمُونِ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ وَأَبِي سِنَانٍ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَالرَّسُولِ
٥٥٤٢ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ، ثنا ابْنُ إِدْرِيسَ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَوْلَهُ: فَرُدُّوهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَالرَّسُولِ قَالَ: إِلَى سُنَّةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ.
٥٥٤٣ - حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ الأَوْدِيُّ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُفَضَّلٍ، ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ قَوْلَهُ: فَرُدُّوهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَالرَّسُولِ قَالَ: إِنْ كَانَ الرَّسُولُ حَيّاً.
وَرُوِيَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ وَعَطَاءٍ وَقَتَادَةَ وَمَيْمُونِ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ، وَأَبِي سِنَانٍ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ ذَلِكَ خَيْرٌ
٥٥٤٤ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ، أَنْبَأَ يَزِيدُ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلَهُ: إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ ذَلِكَ خَيْرٌ يَقُولُ: ذَلِكَ أَحْسَنُ ثَوَاباً
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَأَحْسَنُ تَأْوِيلا
٥٥٤٥ - حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ، ثنا شَبَابَةُ، ثنا وَرْقَاءُ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قوله: وَأَحْسَنُ تَأْوِيلا قَالَ: أَحْسَنُ جَزَاءً.
٥٥٤٦ - حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ الأَوْدِيُّ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُفَضَّلٍ ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ قَوْلَهُ: وَأَحْسَنُ تَأْوِيلا يَقُولُ: عَاقِبَةً. وَرُوِيَ عَنِ قَتَادَةَ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ
