Volume 3 · Page 290His saying (the Exalted): 'al-Taghut' (the false deities/tyrants)

Translation · EN

Then they came to him, but the hypocrites refused and went to Abu Burdah and asked [for his judgment]. He said: "Magnify the morsel," meaning: "Magnify the stake." So Allah the Exalted revealed: "wishing to seek judgment from the Taghut [false judge]."

[His saying, the Exalted: "The Taghut"]

Its interpretation has already preceded.

His saying, the Exalted: "And they have been commanded to disbelieve in it, and Satan wants to lead them far astray."

5550 - My father narrated to us, Khalid ibn Khidash al-Muhallabi narrated to us, Hammad ibn Zayd narrated to us, from al-Zubayr ibn Khirrit, from 'Ikrimah, who said: He was only called Satan (Shaytan) because he became rebellious (tashaytana).

His saying, the Exalted: "And when it is said to them, 'Come to what Allah has revealed and to the Messenger,' you see the hypocrites turning away from you in aversion."

He said: When they were called to what Allah revealed and to the Messenger to judge between them, they would say: "Rather, we seek judgment from the Taghut," whereas they have been commanded to disbelieve in it, and Satan wants to lead them far astray.

His saying, the Exalted: "So how [will it be] when disaster strikes them because of what their hands have put forth, and then they come to you swearing by Allah, 'We intended nothing but good conduct and reconciliation.'"

5553 - al-Hasan ibn Ahmad narrated to us, Musa ibn Muhkam narrated to us, Abu Bakr al-Hanafi informed us, 'Abbad ibn Mansur narrated to us, who said: I asked al-Hasan—meaning about His saying: "So how [will it be] when disaster strikes them because of what their hands have put forth." He said: A punishment for them for their hypocrisy, and they disliked the judgment of Allah, "and then they come to you swearing by Allah, 'We intended nothing but good conduct and reconciliation.'"
