His saying, the Exalted: "And they say: 'Obedience.'"
5665 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi informed me in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my paternal uncle narrated to me, my father narrated to me, from his father, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "And they say: 'Obedience.'" They are people who used to say in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "We believe in Allah and the Messenger," in order to be safe regarding their blood and their wealth.
5666 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "And they say: 'Obedience.'" He said: These are the hypocrites who, when they are in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and he commands them with a matter, they say: "Obedience."
His saying, the Exalted: "But when they leave you..."
5667 - And through the same chain from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "But when they leave you," he said: When they depart from you.
His saying, the Exalted: "...from you."
5668 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi informed me in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my paternal uncle narrated to me, my father narrated to me, from his father, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "But when they leave you," he says: When they leave from the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
His saying, the Exalted: "...a party of them..."
5669 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "...a party of them plotted [bayyata]..." He said: A party of them altered what the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said. Similar to this was narrated from Qatadah.
5670 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi informed me in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my paternal uncle narrated to me, my father narrated to me, from his father, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "A party of them plotted." He says: They opposed them by saying something other than what they said in his presence, so Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, blamed them.
His saying, the Exalted: "A party of them."
5671 - Ahmad ibn al-Azhar informed me in what he wrote to me, Wahb ibn Jarir narrated to us, my father narrated to us, from 'Ali ibn al-Hakam, from al-Dahhak regarding His saying: "A party of them plotted," he said: They are the hypocrites.
