5705 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "in the cause of Allah," he means: in the obedience of Allah.
His saying, the Exalted: "And encourage the believers."
[5706] My father narrated to us, al-Musayyab ibn Wadih narrated to us, Abu Ishaq—meaning al-Fazari—narrated to us, from Abu Raja', a man narrated to me, from Abu Sinan regarding His saying: "And encourage the believers," he said: Make them eager.
His saying, the Exalted: "Perhaps Allah will restrain the might of those who disbelieve."
[5707] My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Perhaps" (Asa), he said: "Perhaps" from Allah is a certainty (wajib).
5708 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Mundhir ibn Shadhan narrated to us, Hamid narrated to us, he said: I heard Ibn 'Uyaynah saying: I heard Ibn Shubrumah reciting it: "Perhaps Allah will restrain the might of those who disbelieve." Sufyan said: It is in the recitation of Ibn Mas'ud as follows: "Perhaps Allah will restrain from you the might of those who disbelieve."
His saying, the Exalted: "And Allah is stronger in might and stronger in punishment."

5709 - My father narrated to us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn al-Mughirah narrated to us, Yazid ibn Zuray' informed us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And Allah is stronger in might and stronger in punishment," meaning: retribution.
The Second Interpretation:
5710 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Ibn Abi Hammad narrated to us, Mihran narrated to us, from Sufyan regarding His saying: "and stronger in punishment," meaning: in severity.
His saying, the Exalted: "Whoever intercedes for a good cause."
5711 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid(1) regarding His saying: "Whoever intercedes for a good cause," [it refers to] the intercession of some people for others.
5712 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salamah Musa ibn Isma'il narrated to us, Hammad—meaning Ibn Salamah—narrated to us, from Humayd, from al-Hasan regarding His saying: "Whoever intercedes for a good cause," he said: Even if he is not rewarded until he is granted the intercession, but he said: "Whoever intercedes."

حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، عن ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَوْلَهُ: عَسَى قَالَ: عَسَى مِنَ اللَّهِ وَاجِبٌ.
٥٧٠٨ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، ثنا مُنْذِرُ بْنُ شَاذَانَ، ثنا حَامِدٌ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُيَيْنَةَ يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ شُبْرُمَةَ يَقْرَأُهَا عَسَى اللَّهُ أَنْ يَكُفَّ بأس الذين كفروا قَالَ سُفْيَانُ: وَهِيَ فِي قِرَاءَةِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ هَكَذَا: عَسَى اللَّهُ أَنْ يَكُفَّ عَنْ بَأْسِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَاللَّهُ أَشَدُّ بَأْساً وَأَشَدُّ تَنْكِيلا

٥٧١٢ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، ثنا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ فِي قَوْلِهِ: مَنْ يَشْفَعْ شَفَاعَةً حَسَنَةً قَالَ: لَوْ لَمْ يُؤْجَرْ حَتَّى يُشَفَّعَ، وَلَكِنْ قال: من يشفع.
