Translation · EN

5760 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "Or they come to you, their chests have become tight," [he said]: "He means Hilal ibn 'Uwaymir, and he is the one whose chest became tight regarding fighting the believers or fighting his own people."

5761 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "Their chests have become tight," he says: "Their chests became constricted." And it was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas, through the narration of 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, the like of that.

5762 - My father narrated to us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn al-Mughirah narrated to us, Yazid ibn Zuray' narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "Or they come to you, their chests have become tight," [he said]: "Meaning: their chests are unwilling."

His saying, the Exalted: "That they fight you or fight their own people."

[5763] Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "That they fight you," [he said]: "That he fights the believers or fights his own people."

His saying, the Exalted: "And if Allah had willed, He would have given them power over you, so they would have fought you. So if they remove themselves from you and do not fight you."

[5764] Usayd ibn 'Asim narrated to us, Sa'id ibn 'Amir narrated to us, from Hammam, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "And if Allah had willed, He would have given them power over you, so they would have fought you. So if they remove themselves from you and do not fight you," to the end of the verse. Then that was abrogated afterwards in [Surah] Bara'ah, so he cast [the treaty] to every person with a treaty, and he ordered his Prophet (peace be upon him) to fight the polytheists until they testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. So the Exalted said: "And kill the polytheists wherever you find them, and seize them, and besiege them, and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush."

His saying, the Exalted: "And they offer you peace."

[5765] My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Ja'far narrated to us, from his father, from al-Rabi', regarding His saying: "So if they remove themselves from you and do not fight you and offer you peace," he said: "The reconciliation."

His saying, the Exalted: "Then Allah has not made for you a way against them."

[5766] Usayd ibn 'Asim narrated to us, Sa'id ibn 'Amir narrated to us, from Hammam, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "Then Allah has not made for you a way against them," [he said]: "Then that was abrogated afterwards in [Surah] Bara'ah, so he cast [the treaty] to every person with a treaty, and he ordered his Prophet (peace be upon him) to fight the polytheists."
