His saying, the Almighty: "Except those with disabilities."
5845 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Bashir narrated to us, Mis'ar narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, from al-Bara' who said: When "Not equal are the sedentary from among the believers" was revealed, Ibn Umm Maktum spoke to him, and so "Except those with disabilities" was revealed.
5846 - Al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ma'mar informed us, from al-Zuhri, from Qabisa ibn Dhu'ayb, from Zayd ibn Thabit who said: I was writing for the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and he said: "Write: 'Not equal are the sedentary from among the believers... and those who strive in the way of Allah.'" Then 'Abd Allah ibn Umm Maktum came and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I love to strive in the way of Allah, but I have a disability as you can see, I have lost my sight." Zayd said: "Then the thigh of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) rested upon my thigh until I thought it would crush it. Then it was lifted from him and he said: 'Write: Not equal are the sedentary from among the believers, except those with disabilities, and those who strive in the way of Allah.'"
5847 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Except those with disabilities"—they are those with a valid excuse.
His saying, the Almighty: "...and those who strive in the way of Allah with their wealth and their lives."
5848 - Al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ibn Jurayj informed us, 'Abd al-Karim informed me that Miqsam, the freed slave of 'Abd Allah ibn al-Harith, informed him, from Ibn 'Abbas who informed him saying: "Not equal are the sedentary from among the believers, except those with disabilities, and those who strive in the way of Allah with their wealth and their lives," he said: "Not equal are the sedentary from among the believers [who stayed back] from Badr and those who went out to Badr."
His saying, the Almighty: "Allah has preferred the strivers with their wealth and their lives over the sedentary by a degree."
5849 - My father narrated to us, 'Abdah narrated to us, Ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, Abu al-Hasan informed us that he heard Ibn Jurayj saying regarding the saying of Allah the Almighty: "Allah has preferred the strivers with their wealth and their lives over the sedentary by a degree," he said: Over those with disabilities."
