[The Second Interpretation]
5889 - Sulayman ibn Dawud, the freed slave of 'Abd Allah ibn Ja'far, narrated to us, Sahl ibn 'Uthman narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Sulayman narrated to us, from Ash'ath, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: Damrah ibn Jundub went out toward the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and he died on the road before reaching the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Thus, it was revealed: "And whoever leaves his home as an emigrant to Allah and His Messenger, then death overtakes him, his reward has already become incumbent upon Allah," until the end of the verse.
5890 - My father narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Raja' narrated to us, Isra'il informed us, from Salim, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Abu Damrah ibn al-'Is al-Zuraqi, who was blind and was in Mecca. When the verse was revealed: "Except for the oppressed among men, women, and children who cannot devise a plan," I said: "I am wealthy and I possess a plan." He said: So he prepared himself, intending to reach the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), but death overtook him at al-Tan'im. Thus, this verse was revealed: "And whoever leaves his home as an emigrant to Allah and His Messenger, then death overtakes him, his reward has already become incumbent upon Allah."
His saying, Exalted is He: "And when you travel throughout the land, there is no sin upon you"
5891 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "There is no sin" - he says: There is no hardship.
His saying, Exalted is He: "that you shorten the prayer, if you fear that those who disbelieve will afflict you"
5892 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj and al-Hasan ibn 'Arafah narrated to us, they both said: 'Abd Allah ibn Idris narrated to us, Ibn Jurayj informed us, from Ibn Abi 'Ammar—meaning 'Abd Allah ibn 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi 'Ammar—from 'Abd Allah ibn Babiyah, from Ya'la ibn Umayyah, he said: I said to 'Umar ibn al-Khattab: "There is no sin upon you that you shorten the prayer if you fear," whereas the people are now in safety? He said: I wondered about what you wonder about, so I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about it, and he said: "A charity that Allah has bestowed upon you, so accept His charity." The phrasing is that of al-Ashajj.
