His saying, the Exalted: "A community."

4004 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd informed us, in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my paternal uncle al-Husayn narrated to us, from his father, from his grandfather, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: "They are not all the same; among the People of the Scripture is a community," he says: A guided community.

His saying, the Exalted: "Standing [in obedience]."

4005 - And by the same chain, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: "A community standing [in obedience]," he says: Standing firm upon the command of Allah, not deviating from it or abandoning it as others did and neglected it.

4006 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Ja'far narrated to us, from his father, from al-Rabi' regarding His saying: "A community standing [in obedience]," he says: Standing firm upon the Book of Allah, His bounds, and His obligations.

His saying, the Exalted: "They recite the verses of Allah."

4007 - And by the same chain, from al-Rabi' regarding His saying: "They recite the verses of Allah during the watches of the night," he said: Some of them said: The 'Atamah prayer (night prayer), which the community of Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, performs, and no others from the People of the Scripture perform it.

His saying, the Exalted: "During the watches of the night, while they prostrate."

4008 - Yahya ibn 'Abdaka al-Qazwini narrated to us, al-Hasan ibn Musa al-Ashyab narrated to us, Shayban ibn 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from 'Asim ibn Abi al-Najud, from Zirr ibn Hubaysh, from 'Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud, he said: The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, delayed the 'Isha' prayer, then he went out to the mosque and found the people waiting for the prayer, so he said: "Know that there is no one among the people of these religions who remembers Allah at this hour other than you." He said: And this verse was revealed: "They are not all the same; among the People of the Scripture is a community standing [in obedience], they recite the verses of Allah during the watches of the night while they prostrate," up to His saying: "All-Knowing of the righteous."

4009 - Muhammad ibn 'Ammar narrated to us, 'Ubayd Allah ibn Musa narrated to us, Shayban narrated to us, with his chain, a similar narration.

4010 - My father narrated to us, Yahya ibn al-Mughirah narrated to us, Jarir narrated to us, from Qabus, from his father, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "During the watches of the night," he said: It is the middle of the night. It was narrated from al-Suddi something similar to that.
