Sufyan, from Jabir, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Aswad, from his father, from Ibn Mas'ud regarding His saying: "A community standing [in obedience], they recite the verses of Allah during the watches of the night," he said: It is the prayer of the time of heedlessness.
4012 - Ahmad ibn Mansur al-Ramadi narrated to us, Yazid ibn Abi Hakim narrated to us, he said: I asked Sufyan—meaning al-Thawri—about the saying of Allah, the Almighty and Exalted: "They are not all the same; among the People of the Scripture is a community standing [in obedience], they recite the verses of Allah during the watches of the night while they prostrate," so he narrated to me from Mansur, he said: It reached me that they used to pray between Maghrib and 'Isha'.
And the third interpretation:
4013 - Al-Husayn ibn Ahmad narrated to us, Musa ibn Muhkam narrated to us, Abu Bakr al-Hanafi narrated to us, 'Abbad ibn Mansur narrated to us, he said: I asked al-Hasan about His saying: "During the watches of the night," he said: Hours from its beginning and its end.
It was narrated from al-Rabi' ibn Anas and Qatadah: They said: The hours of the night.
His saying, the Exalted: "While they prostrate."
4014 - My father narrated to us, Musa ibn Mas'ud narrated to us, Shibl informed us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from al-Hasan ibn Abi Yazid al-'Ajli, from Ibn Mas'ud: "They recite the verses of Allah during the watches of the night while they prostrate," the 'Atamah (night) prayer, they perform it.
His saying, the Exalted: "They believe in Allah and the Last Day, and they enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong."

4015 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, 'Ata' narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "They believe in Allah," he said: They attest to the oneness of Allah and the Last Day, and they attest to the unseen in which there is the recompense for deeds.
His saying, the Exalted: "And they hasten in [all] good deeds, and those are among the righteous."

٤٠١٢ - حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ الرَّمَادِيُّ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَكِيمٍ، قَالَ سَأَلْتُ سُفْيَانَ «٢» يَعْنِي الثَّوْرِيَّ عَنْ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: لَيْسُوا سَوَاءً مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ أُمَّةٌ قَائِمَةٌ يَتْلُونَ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ آنَاءَ اللَّيْلِ وَهُمْ يَسْجُدُونَ فَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ: بَلَغَنِي أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا يُصَلُّونَ بَيْنَ الْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ.

٤٠١٣ - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ مُحْكَمٍ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْحَنَفِيُّ، ثنا عَبَّادُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ الْحَسَنَ قَوْلُهُ: آنَاءَ اللَّيْلِ قَالَ: سَاعَاتٌ مِنْ أَوَّلِهِ وَآخِرِهِ

وَرُوِيَ عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ. وَقَتَادَةَ قَالا: سَاعَاتُ اللَّيْلِ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَهُمْ يَسْجُدُونَ
٤٠١٤ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ أَنْبَأَ شِبْلٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بن أبي يزيد العجلي، عن ابن مَسْعُودٍ: يَتْلُونَ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ آنَاءَ اللَّيْلِ وَهُمْ يَسْجُدُونَ صَلاةَ الْعَتَمَةِ يُصَلُّونَهَا.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: يُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمَ الْآخِرِ وَيَأْمُرُونَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ
قَدْ تَقَدَّمَ تَفْسِيرُهُ «٣» .
٤٠١٥ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي عَطَاءٌ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: يُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللَّهِ قَالَ: يُصَدِّقُونَ بِتَوْحِيدِ اللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ، وَيُصَدِّقُونَ بِالْغَيْبِ الَّذِي فِيهِ جَزَاءُ الأَعْمَالِ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَيُسَارِعُونَ فِي الْخَيْرَاتِ وَأُولَئِكَ مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ
