His saying, the Exalted: "When two parties among you were about to lose heart"

4073 - Al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi' informed us, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Sufyan—meaning Ibn 'Uyaynah—informed us, from 'Amr ibn Dinar, who said: I heard Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah saying: "When two parties among you were about to lose heart, and Allah is their ally," he said: We are they; the Banu Harithah and the Banu Salamah. It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas, Mujahid, al-Sha'bi, al-Rabi' ibn Anas, Qatadah, and Sa'id ibn Abi Hilal similarly.

He replied: "Read after the one hundred and twentieth [verse] of Al 'Imran, you will find our story: 'And [remember] when you departed from your family to post the believers...' up to His saying: 'When two parties among you were about to lose heart.'" He said: They are those who sought security from the polytheists.
