His saying (the Almighty): "before the Torah was revealed."
3821 - Musa ibn Harun al-Tusi informed us in what he wrote to me, al-Husayn ibn Muhammad al-Marwudhi narrated to us, Shayban narrated to us, from 'Abd al-Rahman, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "before the Torah was revealed." He said: When Allah revealed the Torah, He forbade them therein what He willed and made lawful for them what He willed.
His saying (the Almighty): "Say, 'Bring the Torah.'"
3822 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi informed me in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my uncle al-Husayn narrated to me, my father narrated to me, from my grandfather, from Ibn 'Abbas who said: Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) asked a group of the People of the Book, and they said: "What is the matter with this being forbidden?" meaning the sinew. They said: "It was forbidden for us before the Book." Allah the Almighty then said: "Say, 'Bring the Torah and recite it, if you are truthful.'"
3823 - 'Ali ibn al-Mubarak informed me in what he wrote to me, Zayd ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, Ibn Thawr narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj who said: Ibn 'Abbas said: The Jews said to Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace): "Moses (peace be upon him) was a Jew, following our religion, and in the Torah, the prohibition of fats, the clawed animals, and the Sabbath came to us." Muhammad said: "You have lied. Moses was not a Jew, and there is nothing in the Torah except Islam." And Allah says: "Say, 'Bring the Torah and recite it,'" was that in it? And did their prophets not bring it to them after Moses?
3824 - My father narrated to us, Sulayman ibn Harb narrated to us, Hammad narrated to us, from Ayyub, from Nafi', from Ibn 'Umar who said: The Jews came to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) with two Jews and said: "They have committed adultery." He said: "What do you find in your Book?" They said: "We expose them." He said: "Bring the Torah and recite it, if you are truthful." So they brought the Torah.
His saying (the Almighty): "Then whoever invents a lie against Allah after that—then those are the wrongdoers."
3825 - My father narrated to us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Munib narrated to us, Abu Mu'adh al-Nahwi narrated to us, 'Ubayd ibn Sulayman narrated to us, from al-Dahhak regarding His saying: "Then whoever invents a lie against Allah after that—then those are the wrongdoers."
He said: They lied and fabricated, and the Torah was not revealed with that. Abu Muhammad said: He means with the prohibition of the sinews.
(1) In al-Durr, it is written: "if you are truthful" 2/264. (2) Al-Bukhari mentioned it in the Book of Tafsir, and it contains more than what the author mentioned.
