Volume 3 · Page 61His saying (the Almighty): 'And adversity'

Translation · EN

His saying, the Exalted: "And in adversity"

4164 - And through the same chain from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding the saying of Allah: "In adversity," meaning: in times of hardship.

It was narrated from Qatadah that he said: In times of difficulty and struggle.

It was narrated from Muqatil ibn Hayyan that he said: In times of difficulty.

His saying, the Exalted: "And who restrain the anger"

4165 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi reported to us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my uncle al-Husayn narrated to me, from his father, from his grandfather, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: "And who restrain the anger," he said: They restrain their anger, similar to His saying: "And when they are angry, they forgive." They are angry regarding a matter that, had they fallen into it, would have been forbidden, so they forgive and pardon, seeking by that the Face of Allah.

[His saying, the Exalted: "And who pardon the people"]

[The first interpretation]

4166 - And through the same chain from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: "And who pardon the people," similar to His saying: "And let not those of virtue among you swear..." He says: Do not swear that you will not give them from your wealth; rather, pardon and overlook.

And the second interpretation:

4167 - Abu Harun al-Kharraz narrated to us, Ishaq ibn Sulayman narrated to us, Abu Ja'far narrated to us, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah regarding the saying of Allah: "And who pardon the people," he said: [They pardon] the slaves.

It was narrated from Makhul similarly.

His saying, the Exalted: "And Allah loves the doers of good"

4168 - I read to Muhammad ibn 'Ali, Muhammad ibn Muzahim informed us, from Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan: "And who pardon the people"—whoever does that, he is a doer of good—"And Allah loves the doers of good." It reached me that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said at that point: "Indeed, these are few in my nation, except for those whom Allah protects, though they were many in the nations that passed before."

4169 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, Zunayj narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, who said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said regarding His saying: "And Allah loves the doers of good," i.e., that is the doing of good, and I love the one who acts accordingly.
