His saying, the Exalted: "And those who, when they commit an immorality"

4170 - And through the same chain, Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: "And those who, when they commit an immorality," meaning: they have committed an immorality.

His saying, the Exalted: "an immorality"

[The first interpretation]

4171 - Abu Zur'ah al-Dimashqi narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Bakkar narrated to us, Sa'id ibn Bashir narrated to us, from Qatadah, from al-Hasan, from 'Imran ibn Husayn that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "What do you say about the fornicator, the thief, and the wine-drinker?" They said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said: "These are immoralities and for them there is a penalty."

4172 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim narrated to us, Ahmad ibn al-Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "And those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves"—as for the immorality, it is fornication (zina).

It was narrated from Jabir ibn Zayd and Muqatil ibn Hayyan similarly.

And the second interpretation:

4173 - My father narrated to us, Muqatil ibn Muhammad narrated to us, Waki' narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Mansur, from Ibrahim regarding "And those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves," he said: The immorality is the injustice (zulm).

And the third interpretation:

4174 - My father narrated to us, al-Hakam ibn Musa narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, from 'Umar ibn Muhammad, from Zayd ibn Aslam regarding His saying: "And those who, when they commit an immorality," they said: "We were commanded to do it." He said: [It refers to] their circumambulation (tawaf) around the House while naked.

His saying, the Exalted: "or wrong themselves"

4175 - My father narrated to us, Muqatil ibn Hayyan narrated to us, Waki' narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Mansur, from Ibrahim regarding "or wrong themselves," he said: The injustice (zulm) is the immorality.

4176 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn Muzahim informed us, from Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan regarding His saying: "And those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves": They have committed a sin.
