3829 - My father narrated to us, al-Husayn ibn al-Rabi' narrated to us, Abu al-Ahwas narrated to us, from Simak ibn Harb, from Khalid ibn 'Ar'arah who said: A man stood before 'Ali and said: "Will you not tell me about the House? Is it the first house that was established?" He replied: "No, but it is the first house in which blessing was established, the Station of Ibrahim, and whoever enters it is safe. If you wish, I will tell you how it was built. Allah revealed to Ibrahim (peace be upon him) to build a house for Him on earth, but Ibrahim found this burdensome. So He sent to him the Sakinah (tranquility/divine presence), which was a rushing wind with two heads. One followed the other until it reached Makkah, and it circled the place of the House, circumambulating like a curved shield. Ibrahim was commanded to build where the Sakinah settled. He was building it with his son, and when he reached the place of the Stone, Ibrahim said to his son, 'Seek for me [a stone] as I instruct you.' So the boy went out to look for a stone for him, and when he returned with it, he found that he had already placed the Black Stone in its position. He said to him: 'O Ibrahim, who brought you this stone?' He replied: 'The One who did not rely on your building brought it; Jibril brought it from the heavens.' So they built it and completed it."
[His saying, the Exalted: "In Bakkah, blessed"]
[The First Aspect]
3830 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj and 'Amr al-Awdi narrated to us, both saying: Waki' narrated to us, from Sufyan, from al-Aswad ibn Qays, from his brother, from 'Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr who said: It was named Bakkah only because people come from every side as pilgrims. The phrasing is that of al-Ashajj. Abu Muhammad said: Something similar to this was narrated from Muqatil ibn Hayyan.
[The Second Aspect]
3831 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Musa narrated to us, Ibn Abi Za'idah informed us, Mis'ar informed us, he said: I heard 'Utbah ibn Qays saying: "Bakkah caused weeping, the male in it is like the female." I said: "From whom do you narrate this?" He mentioned Ibn 'Umar.
[The Third Aspect]
3832 - Muhammad ibn 'Ammar ibn al-Harith narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman (meaning al-Dashtaki) narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Abi Qays informed us, from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib, from Abu Ja'far Muhammad ibn 'Ali ibn al-Husayn, who said: A woman passed in front of a man while he was praying, and she was circumambulating the House, so he pushed her away. Abu Ja'far said: "It is Bakkah, they crowd one another."
