4231 - al-Hasan ibn Ahmad narrated to us, Musa ibn Muhkam narrated to us, Abu Bakr al-Hanafi narrated to us, 'Abbad ibn Mansur narrated to us, he said: I asked al-Hasan about His saying: "And these days We alternate among the people," and he said: Allah has made the days alternating; once for these and once for those. The disbelievers were granted a turn against the companions of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, on the day of Uhud.
The Second Aspect:
4232 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Abu Kamil al-Fudayl ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Hammad ibn Zayd narrated to us, Ibn 'Awn narrated to us, from Muhammad regarding: "And these days We alternate among the people," he said: These people; meaning: the rulers.
4233 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said regarding: "And these days We alternate among the people," he said: We turn them among the people, and the trial is for purification.
His saying, the Exalted: "And that Allah may know those who believe"
4234 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Ja'far narrated to us, from his father, from al-Rabi' ibn Anas regarding His saying: "And these days We alternate among the people, and that Allah may know those who believe," he said: Allah manifested His Prophet and his companions over the polytheists on the day of Badr, and He gave their enemy victory over them on the day of Uhud. It is often the case that a turn is given to the disbeliever against the believer, and the believer is tried by the disbeliever, so that He may know who obeys Him from who disobeys Him, and know the truthful from the liar.
4235 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: "And that Allah may know those who believe," meaning: to distinguish between the believers and the hypocrites, and to honor those whom He honors from the people of faith with martyrdom.
His saying, the Exalted: "And take witnesses from among you"
4236 - My father narrated to us, al-Musayyab ibn Wadih narrated to us, Abu Ishaq narrated to us, from Hisham, from Ibn Sirin, 'Ubaydah narrated to us regarding: "And that Allah may know those who believe, and take witnesses from among you," he says: That they might not be killed unless they become martyrs.
4237 - al-Mundhir ibn Shadhan narrated to us, Zakariya ibn 'Adi narrated to us, Salam Abu al-Ahwas informed us, from Sa'id ibn Masruq, from Abu al-Duha, he said: It was revealed "And take witnesses from among you," so seventy of them were killed on that day.
