4244 - Abu al-Hasan ibn Ahmad narrated to us, Musa ibn Muhkam narrated to us, Abu Bakr al-Hanafi narrated to us, 'Abbad ibn Mansur narrated to us, who said: I asked al-Hasan about His saying: "And that Allah may purify those who believe," he said: He purifies the believer until he is sincere, and He eradicates the disbeliever until he is proven a liar.
4245 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: "And that Allah may purify those who believe," meaning: He tests those who believe until He purifies them through the affliction that has befallen them, and [He tests] how their patience and certainty are.
4246 - 'Ali ibn al-Mubarak informed us in what he wrote to me, Zayd ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, Ibn Thawr narrated to us from Ibn Jurayj, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding: "And that Allah may purify those who believe," he said: He tests them.
4247 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid narrated to us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And that Allah may purify those who believe and eradicate the disbelievers," it was a purification for the believers and an eradication for the disbelievers.
4248 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: "And eradicate the disbelievers," meaning: He renders void the words of the hypocrites, for they speak with their tongues what is not in their hearts, until their disbelief, which they conceal from you, is revealed.
4249 - 'Ali ibn al-Mubarak informed us in what he wrote to me, Zayd ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, Ibn Thawr narrated to us from Ibn Jurayj, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding: "And eradicate the disbelievers," he said: He diminishes them.
His saying, the Exalted: "Or do you think that you will enter"
4250 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas, the freed slave of Banu Hashim, narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Amr narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: "Or do you think that you will enter Paradise" and attain the reward of honor.
His saying, the Exalted: "While Allah has not yet made evident those who strive among you and made evident those who are steadfast"
4251 - And with the same chain, Ibn Ishaq said: "And made evident those who are steadfast," he says: Have I not tested you with hardship and tried you with adversity?
