4364 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Amr narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, who said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said regarding: "Then He sent down upon you after distress a sense of security, slumber, overcoming a faction of you," he said: Allah sent down the slumber as a security upon the people of certainty among them, while they were sleeping, unafraid.
His saying, the Exalted: "while a faction [of you] had been worried by their own selves"
4365 - Al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid ibn Mazid al-Bayruti narrated to us by way of recitation, Muhammad ibn Shu'ayb narrated to us, Sa'id ibn Bashir informed us, from Qatadah regarding the saying of Allah the Exalted: "while a faction [of you] had been worried by their own selves," he said: They were two groups on that day; as for the other group, they were the hypocrites, who had no concern but for themselves, the most cowardly of people, the most terrified, and the most failing to uphold the truth.
4366 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, Junayj narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, who said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: Muhammad ibn Abi Muhammad narrated to me, from 'Ikrimah, or from Sa'id, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: It was Mu'attib who said on the day of Uhud: "If we had had any say in the matter, we would not have been killed right here." So Allah the Exalted sent down concerning their statement: "while a faction [of you] had been worried by their own selves, thinking about Allah [other than the truth]" to the end of the story.
His saying, the Exalted: "thinking about Allah other than the truth"
4367 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid narrated to us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah regarding: "thinking about Allah other than the truth," he said: False thoughts; they are merely people of doubt and suspicion.
4368 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, Junayj narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, who said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said, meaning His saying: "thinking about Allah other than the truth," and that is because they did not expect any outcome. So Allah mentioned their blaming and their regret over what had befallen them.
His saying, the Exalted: "the thought of ignorance"
4369 - Al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ma'mar informed us, from Qatadah regarding: "the thought of ignorance," he said: The thought of the people of polytheism.
