Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding "And what was revealed to them from their Lord," he says: If they had acted upon what was revealed to them from what Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, brought to them.
His saying, the Almighty: "They would have eaten from above them."
[6599] My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding "They would have eaten from above them," meaning: He would have sent the rain upon them in abundance. It was narrated from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, Mujahid, al-Suddi, and Qatadah the like of that.
His saying, the Almighty: "And from beneath their feet."
[The First View]
[6600] And by the same chain from Ibn 'Abbas regarding "And from beneath their feet," meaning: The earth would bring forth its blessings. It was narrated from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, Mujahid, al-Suddi, and Qatadah the like of that.
The Second View:
[6601] My father narrated to us, Yahya ibn Salih al-Wuhazi narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Umar al-Qabbani narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Maysarah al-Hadrami narrated to us, regarding His saying: "And if only they had upheld the Torah and the Gospel and what was revealed to them from their Lord, they would have eaten from above them and from beneath their feet," he said: Provision upon provision, and no wretchedness.
His saying: "Among them are a moderate nation."
[The First View]
[6602] My father narrated to us, Abu Hudhayfah narrated to us, Shibl narrated to us, from 'Abd Allah ibn Kathir that he heard Mujahid saying: The Children of Israel divided into three factions regarding 'Isa (Jesus). One faction said: He is Allah. One faction said: He is the son of Allah. And one faction said: He is the servant of Allah and His spirit; this is the moderate faction, and they are the Muslims from among the People of the Scripture.
The Second View:
[6603] The Awdi informed me in what he wrote to me, Ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding "Among them are a moderate nation," [meaning] believers.
And the Third View:
[6604] Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed me in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj narrated to us, he said: I heard
مُفَضَّلٍ، ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ وَمَا أُنْزِلَ إليهم من ربهم يَقُولُ: لَوْ عَمِلُوا بِمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْهِمْ مِمَّا جَاءَهُمْ بِهِ مُحَمَّدٌ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: لأَكَلُوا مِنْ فَوْقِهِمْ
٦٥٩٩ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ لأَكَلُوا مِنْ فَوْقِهِمْ يَعْنِي لأَرْسَلَ السَّمَاءَ عَلَيْهِمْ مِدْرَارًا- وَرُوِيَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ وَمُجَاهِدٍ وَالسُّدِّيِّ وَقَتَادَةَ نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَمِنْ تَحْتِ أَرْجُلِهِمْ

٦٦٠١ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ صَالِحٍ الْوُحَاظِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْقَبَّانِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَيْسَرَةَ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ فِي قَوْلِهِ: وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ أَقَامُوا التَّوْرَاةَ وَالإِنْجِيلَ وَمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْهِمْ مِنْ رَبِّهِمْ لَأَكَلُوا مِنْ فَوْقِهِمْ وَمِنْ تَحْتِ أَرْجُلِهِمْ قال: عين زاد عين ولا أشقياء.
