from ‘Ata’, from Ibn ‘Abbas, who said: The righteous deeds are: Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest), Al-Hamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), Subhanallah (Glory be to Allah), and La ilaha illa Allah (There is no god but Allah).
His saying, the Almighty: "no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve"
[6633] Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Bukayr narrated to us, ‘Abd Allah ibn Lahi‘ah narrated to me, ‘Ata’ ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, regarding His saying: "no fear will there be concerning them," meaning: in the Hereafter; "nor will they grieve," meaning: they will not grieve at the time of death.
His saying, the Almighty: "And We took the covenant of the Children of Israel"
[6634] ‘Isam ibn Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, from Abu Ja‘far, from al-Rabi‘, from Abu al-‘Aliyah: Regarding His saying: "the covenant of the Children of Israel," he said: He took their covenants that they would be sincere to Him and not worship anyone else.
His saying, the Almighty: "And We sent to them messengers. Every time there came to them a messenger"
[6635] Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, ‘Amr ibn Hammad ibn Talhah al-Qannad narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding "And when there came to them a messenger," he said: When Muhammad (peace be upon him) came to them, they opposed him with the Torah and disputed with him.
[6636] Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, Abu Ghassan narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, who said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said, Muhammad ibn Abi Muhammad narrated to me, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr—or ‘Ikrimah—from Ibn ‘Abbas, who said: What he refuted of them from the Torah, along with the Gospel which Allah took to Him, then he mentioned their disbelief in all of that, then he said: "Every time there came to them a messenger with that which their souls did not desire, a party [of messengers] they denied, and another party they killed."

[6637] My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, regarding "And they thought there would be no trial," meaning: they thought there would be no shirk (polytheism).
[The Second Aspect]
[6638] Abu Sa‘id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Waki‘ narrated to us, from Mubarak, from al-Hasan, regarding His saying: "And they thought there would be no trial," he said: That they would not be tested.
عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: الأَعْمَالُ الصَّالِحَةُ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ، لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: فَلا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ
٦٦٣٣ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بُكَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي عَطَاءُ بْنُ دِينَارٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: فَلا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ يَعْنِي فِي الآخِرَةِ وَلا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ يَعْنِي: لَا يَحْزَنُونَ عِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: لَقَدْ أَخَذْنَا مِيثَاقَ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ
٦٦٣٤ - حَدَّثَنَا عِصَامُ بْنُ رَوَّادٍ، ثنا آدَمُ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ:
قَوْلَهُ: مِيثَاقَ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ قَالَ: أَخَذَ مَوَاثِيقَهُمْ أَنْ يُخْلِصُوا لَهُ وَلا يَعْبُدُوا غَيْرَهُ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَأَرْسَلْنَا إِلَيْهِمْ رُسُلا كُلَّمَا جَاءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ
٦٦٣٥ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ حَمَّادٍ بْنِ طَلْحَةَ الْقَنَّادُ، ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ وَلَقَدْ جَاءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ قَالَ: لَمَّا جَاءَهُمْ مُحَمَّدٌ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَارَضُوهُ بِالتَّوْرَاةِ وَخَاصَمُوهُ.
٦٦٣٦ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، ثنا أَبُو غَسَّانَ، ثنا سَلَمَةُ قَالَ: قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ أَبو عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: مَا رَدَّ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنَ التَّوْرَاةِ مَعَ الإِنْجِيلِ الَّذِي أَخَذَهُ اللَّهُ إِلَيْهِ ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ كُفْرَهُمْ بِذَلِكَ كُلِّهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: كُلَّمَا جَاءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ بِمَا لَا تهوى أنفسهم فريقا كذبوا وفريقا يقتلون

٦٦٣٧ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ وَحَسِبُوا أَلا تَكُونَ فِتْنَةٌ يَعْنِي حَسِبُوا أَلا يَكُونَ شِرْكٌ.
الْوَجْهُ الثَّانِي:
٦٦٣٨ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ، ثنا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ مُبَارَكٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ فِي قَوْلِهِ وَحَسِبُوا أَلا تَكُونَ فِتْنَةٌ قَالَ: أَلا يُبْتَلُوا.
