Volume 4 · Page 13His saying (exalted is He): 'And the favor of Allah upon you has been ever great.'

Translation · EN

His saying, the Almighty: "And the favor of Allah upon you has been great." Its interpretation has already preceded.

His saying, the Almighty: "There is no good in most of their secret talks."

[The First Aspect]

[5959] Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, who said: Then he mentioned their secret talks regarding what they wanted to lie about concerning Tu'mah, so he said: "There is no good in most of their secret talks, except for one who commands charity."

It was narrated from Muqatil ibn Hayyan that he said: They held secret talks regarding the affair of Tu'mah ibn Ubayriq.

And the Second Aspect:

[5960] It was read to Yunus ibn 'Abd al-A'la, Ibn Wahb informed us, he said: 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam said regarding the saying of Allah, the Exalted and Majestic: "There is no good in most of their secret talks, except for one who commands charity, or goodness, or reconciliation between people." Whoever comes to you for secret talk regarding this, accept his secret talk; and whoever comes to you for secret talk regarding other than this, cut him off and do not hold secret talk with him.

His saying, the Almighty: "Or goodness."

[5961] I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn 'Ali narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim narrated to us from Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan, regarding "except for one who commands charity or goodness," he said: Goodness is the loan. It was narrated from Sa'id ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz the same as that.

His saying, the Almighty: "Or reconciliation between people."

[5962] Ahmad ibn 'Isam Abu Ahmad narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Habib narrated to us, he said: I was with Muhammad ibn Ka'b and Muhammad said to him: Where were you? He said: There was something between my people, so I reconciled between them. He said: You have awakened with the like of the reward of the mujahidin in the path of Allah. Then he recited: "There is no good in most of their secret talks, except for one who commands charity, or goodness, or reconciliation between people."

His saying, the Almighty: "And whoever does that seeking the pleasure of Allah."

[5963] I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fudayl, Muhammad ibn 'Ali narrated to us, Abu Wahb Muhammad ibn Muzahim narrated to us, from Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan, regarding "And whoever does that"—that is, giving charity, or lending, or reconciling between people—"seeking the pleasure of Allah, We will give him a great reward."
