[6721] ‘Ali ibn Harb al-Mawsili narrated to us, Abu Mu‘awiyah narrated to us, from ‘Asim, from Ibn Sirin, from Ibn ‘Umar, regarding His saying: "of that which you feed your families with," he said: Bread and clarified butter (samn), bread and oil, and dates. And of the best of what you feed them is bread and meat. And it was narrated from Makhul something similar to that.
[6722] Yunus ibn ‘Abd al-A‘la informed us, having read it, Sufyan ibn ‘Uyaynah narrated to us, from Sulayman ibn Abi al-Mughirah, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, who said: Ibn ‘Abbas said: A man used to provide food for some of his family members more generously than others. So Allah, the Almighty, said: "of that which you feed your families with," which is bread and oil.
[The Third Aspect]
[6723] Abu Sa‘id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Hafs ibn Ghiyath narrated to us, from Sulayman ibn al-Mughirah, who said: I asked Sa‘id ibn Jubayr about "of that which you feed your families with." He said: The people of Medina used to say: The small [person] according to his capacity, and the great [person] according to his capacity, and they used to order the average [standard].
[The Fourth Aspect]
[6724] Abu Sa‘id al-Ashajj narrated to us, from Waki‘, from Isra’il, from Jabir, from ‘Amir, from Ibn ‘Abbas, regarding "of that which you feed your families with," he said: According to their hardship and their ease.
His saying, the Almighty: "...or their clothing."
[The First Aspect]
[6725] Abu Sa‘id al-Ashajj and ‘Ammar ibn Khalid al-Wasiti narrated to us, he said: Al-Qasim ibn Malik narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn al-Zubayr, from his father, who said: I asked ‘Imran ibn Husayn about His saying: "or their clothing." He said: If a delegation were to arrive before your leader, and he clothed them with one cap each, you would say: They have been clothed.

[6726] My father narrated to us, al-Hasan ibn al-Rabi‘ and Marwan ibn Ja‘far ibn Sa‘id ibn Samurah narrated to us, they said: ‘Umar narrated to us, from Barrah, from Nafi‘, from Ibn ‘Umar, regarding the clothing: A garment or an izar (waist wrapper).
[6727] My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, regarding "or their clothing," and the clothing is an ‘aba’ah (cloak) for every needy person, or a shamlah (wrap).
It was narrated from Sa‘id ibn al-Musayyib, Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, Ibrahim, Jabir ibn Zayd, Tawus, and al-Hasan—in one of the narrations—and ‘Ata’, ‘Ikrimah, Mujahid, al-Suddi, Makhul, Abu Ja‘far, Muqatil ibn Hayyan, al-Hakam, and ‘Abdah ibn Abi Lubabah, that they said: A garment.
