[6770] Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah narrated to us, Ibn Lahi‘ah narrated to me, ‘Ata’ ibn Dinar narrated to me from Sa‘id regarding His saying: "And avert you from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer—so will you not then desist?" This is the threat of prohibition. They said: "We have desisted, O our Lord." So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Whoever has any of it, let him neither sell it nor drink it."
His saying: "And obey Allah and obey the Messenger"
[6771] Through the same chain from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr regarding Allah's saying: "And obey Allah and obey the Messenger," meaning: in the prohibition of wine, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone altars, and divining arrows.
His saying: "But if you turn away"
[6772] Through the same chain from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "But if you turn away," meaning: you turn away from obeying it.
His saying: "Then know that upon Our Messenger"
[6773] Through the same chain from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "Then know that upon Our Messenger," meaning: Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.
His saying: "Is only the clear conveyance"
[6774] Through the same chain from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr regarding Allah's saying: "Is only the clear conveyance," meaning: that he should clarify the prohibition of that, in the description of the deeds of the believers and what is prepared for them in their wealth.
His saying: "There is no sin upon those who believe and do righteous deeds"
[6775] Yunus ibn Habib narrated to us, Dawud narrated to us, Shu‘bah narrated to us from Abu Ishaq from al-Bara’, he said: "When the prohibition of wine was revealed, they said: 'What about those who used to drink it before it was forbidden?' Then was revealed: 'There is no sin upon those who believe and do righteous deeds for what they consumed...' (the verse).
His saying: "If they fear [Allah] and believe and do righteous deeds"
[6776] Ahmad ibn Sinan al-Wasiti narrated to us, Muhammad ibn ‘Umar ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Rumi narrated to me, ‘Ali ibn Mushir narrated to me from al-A‘mash from Ibrahim from ‘Alqamah from ‘Abd Allah ibn Mas‘ud, he said: "When it was revealed: 'There is no sin upon those who believe and do righteous deeds for what they consumed if they fear [Allah] and believe and do righteous deeds,' the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: 'It was said to me: You are among them.'"
