[6782] Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Safwan narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, he said: I heard one of our sheikhs, who had heard knowledge, saying in the interpretation of this verse: "Then [again] fear [Allah] and do good" in the performance of zakat.

His saying: "O you who have believed, Allah will surely test you"

[6783] Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah narrated to us, ‘Abd Allah ibn Lahi‘ah informed me, ‘Ata’ ibn Dinar narrated to me from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr regarding the saying of Allah: "Allah will surely test you," meaning: He will surely try you, meaning: the believers.

His saying: "With something of the game"

[6784] My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talhah from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "Allah will surely test you with something of the game [that] your hands and your spears can reach." He said: It is the weak game and its young; Allah tries His servants with it during their state of ihram, to the extent that if they wished, they could reach it with their hands, so Allah forbade them from approaching it.

[6785] Abu Sa‘id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Waki‘ and Abu Nu‘aym both narrated to us, they said: Sufyan narrated to us from Humayd al-A‘raj from Mujahid regarding: "Allah will surely test you with something of the game," he said: That which it cannot flee from.

His saying: "[That] your hands can reach"

[6786] Muhammad ibn Hammad Abu ‘Abd Allah al-Tihrani informed us in what he wrote to me, ‘Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, Ma‘mar informed us from Ibn Abi Najih from Mujahid regarding: "Allah will surely test you with something of the game [that] your hands can reach," he said: Your seizing them with your hands from their eggs and their young.

His saying: "And your spears"

[6787] Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa’ narrated to us from Ibn Abi Najih from Mujahid regarding His saying: "And your spears." He said: "And your spears," [which are] your spears. He then said: The large game.
