I heard ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam regarding the saying of Allah, the Exalted: "Allah has made the Ka‘bah, the Sacred House, a standing [qiyam] for the people." He said: All people were kings in it, defending one another, for there were no kings among the Arabs to defend one another; so Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, made for them the Sacred House as a standing, whereby they defend one another.

His saying, the Exalted: "A standing for the people"

[6854] My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "Allah has made the Ka‘bah, the Sacred House, a standing for the people," he said: A standing for their religion and a landmark for their pilgrimage.

[6855] My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn al-Walid ibn Burd al-Antaki narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ja‘far ibn Muhammad narrated to us, from Ja‘far ibn Muhammad, from his father, from his grandfather regarding the saying of Allah, the Exalted and Majestic: "Allah has made the Ka‘bah, the Sacred House, a standing for the people," he said: A standing for the people is their veneration of it.

[6856] ‘Amr al-Awdi narrated to us, Waki‘ narrated to us, from Isra’il, from Abu al-Haytham, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr regarding the saying of Allah: "Allah has made the Ka‘bah, the Sacred House, a standing for the people," he said: A strengthening for their religion.

[6857] My father narrated to us, al-Hajjaj ibn al-Minhal narrated to us, Hammad narrated to us, from Humayd, from al-Hasan, that he recited this verse: "Allah has made the Ka‘bah, the Sacred House, a standing for the people," he said: People will remain upon religion as long as they perform pilgrimage and face the Qiblah.

[6858] My father narrated to us, Abu Salih, the scribe of al-Layth, narrated to us, al-Layth narrated to us, ‘Uqayl narrated to me, from Ibn Shihab, he said: "Allah has made the Ka‘bah, the Sacred House, a standing for the people." Ibn Shihab said: So Allah made that a standing for the people, they are safe by it in all of that, in the first Jahiliyyah; some do not fear others when they meet them at the House, in the Haram, or during the Sacred Month.

[6859] Ahmad ibn ‘Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "Allah has made the Ka‘bah, the Sacred House, a standing for the people, and the Sacred Month, and the sacrificial animals, and the garlands." Allah made these four a standing for the people; they are the foundation of their affairs.
