[6872] My father narrated to us, Salamah ibn Shabib narrated to us, Dawud ibn al-Jarrah narrated to us, Abu Ma‘shar narrated to us from al-Maqburi, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: If you wish, recite the Book of Allah: "The evil and the good are not equal."
His saying, the Exalted: "So fear Allah."
[6873] Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Bukayr narrated to us, ‘Abd Allah ibn Lahi‘ah narrated to me, ‘Ata’ ibn Yasar narrated to me from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "So fear Allah," meaning: the believers, warning them.
His saying, the Exalted: "O those of understanding."
[6874] And by the same chain, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "O those of understanding," he says: Whoever possesses intellect or reason.
His saying, the Exalted: "O you who have believed, do not ask about things which, if they are shown to you, will distress you."
[The First Aspect]
[6875] Abu Sa‘id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Mansur ibn Wardan al-Asadi narrated to us, from ‘Ali ibn ‘Abd al-A‘la, from his father, from Abu al-Bakhtari, from ‘Ali, who said: When "And [due] to Allah from the people is a pilgrimage to the House—for whoever is able to find thereto a way" was revealed, they said: O Messenger of Allah, is the pilgrimage every year? He remained silent, then "O you who have believed, do not ask about things which, if they are shown to you, will distress you" was revealed.
[6876] Yunus ibn ‘Abd al-A‘la informed us by way of recitation, Ibn Wahb narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Nashit informed me, from Ibn Labid Hasif, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Ghanm, from Abu Malik al-Ash‘ari—or Abu ‘Amir, all of them were trustworthy—that while they were with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and this verse had been revealed: "O you who have believed, do not ask about things which, if they are shown to you, will distress you," the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) mentioned the description of a people who are neither prophets nor martyrs, whom the prophets and martyrs will envy for their proximity to Allah on the Day of Resurrection. He said: So they remained silent and did not ask about anything.
