[The Second Interpretation]

[6904] Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi reported to me in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my paternal uncle narrated to me, my father narrated to me from his father from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: 'Nor a Ham.' He said: A man would have a stallion, and when it had impregnated ten, it would be called a 'Ham,' so they would leave it alone.

[6905] Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab narrated to us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah narrated to us from Abu Rawq regarding his saying: 'Nor a Ham.' He said: When a camel had ten [offspring] of its own loins, all of which would mate with camels, they would say: 'This one has protected (hama) his back, so nothing would be benefited from it,' and it would belong to the idols.

[The Third Interpretation]

[6906] Al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq reported to us, Ma'mar reported to us from al-Zuhri from Ibn al-Musayyib regarding His saying: 'Allah has not instituted [such things as] Bahirah, nor Sa'ibah, nor Wasilah, nor Ham.' The 'Ham' is the stallion among the camels when it has performed a counted number of matings; when it reached that, they would say: 'It has protected its back,' and it would be left alone, so they named it the Ham. Ma'mar said: Qatadah said: When it has mated ten times.

[6907] Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yunus ibn 'Abd al-A'la narrated to us, Ibn Wahb narrated to us, he said: I heard Malik saying: As for the 'Ham,' it is from the camels; it would mate with the camels, and when its matings were finished, they would place the feathers of peacocks upon it and set it free.

His saying, the Exalted: 'But those who disbelieve'

[6908] Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Abu Usamah narrated to us from Sufyan al-Thawri from Dawud ibn Abi Hind from Muhammad ibn Abi Musa regarding His saying: 'But those who disbelieve fabricate falsehood against Allah.' He said: The People of the Book.

[6909] My father narrated to us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Munib narrated to us, Abu Mu'adh al-Nahwi narrated to us, Kharijah narrated to us from Dawud ibn Abi Hind from al-Sha'bi regarding His saying: 'But those who disbelieve fabricate falsehood against Allah.' He said: They are the followers.

His saying, the Exalted: 'Fabricate falsehood against Allah'

[6910] Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab ibn al-Harith narrated to us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah narrated to us from Abu Rawq from al-Dahhak from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: 'Fabricate,' [meaning] they lie in the worldly life.
