[6912] Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas narrated to us, Yazid narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us from Qatadah regarding his saying: 'Fabricate,' meaning they associate others with Allah (shirk).

[6913] Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid ibn Zuray' narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us from Qatadah regarding his saying: 'And most of them do not understand.' He says: The prohibition of the devil which he prohibited them, it was only from the devil, and they do not understand it.

[6914] Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi reported to me in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my paternal uncle narrated to me, my father narrated to me from his father from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: 'And when it is said to them: Come to what Allah has revealed and to the Messenger.' He said: When they were invited to what Allah has revealed and to the Messenger to judge between them, they would say: Rather, we will take you for judgment to Ka'b ibn al-Ashraf.
His saying, the Exalted: 'O you who have believed, you are responsible for yourselves.'
[6915] Al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid ibn Mazid informed us by reading, Muhammad ibn Shu'ayb informed us, 'Utbah ibn Abi Hakim informed me, 'Amr ibn Jariyah narrated to me from Abu Umayyah al-Sha'bani, he said: I came to Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani and said: How do you act regarding this verse? He said: Which verse? I said: I said, 'O you who have believed, you are responsible for yourselves. Those who have gone astray will not harm you when you have been guided.' Abu Tha'labah said: By Allah, you have asked an expert about it; I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about it, and he said: 'Rather, enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil, until you see stinginess being obeyed, desires being followed, the worldly life being preferred, and everyone with an opinion being impressed by his own opinion. You will see days of patience, where patience in them is like holding onto burning coals; for the one who acts in them, there is the reward of fifty men who do the same as his deed.'
